Well, Emilie's match is heading for a compelling denouement in this second set. 9th game on Emilie's serve was exceptionally long - 24 pts, with Emilie saving 6 or 7 BPs, then returning on the next serve she had two MPs, neither of which were taken... went 40-15 up on her next service game.... and the 2nd seed has retired!
Emilie wins 6-4 5-5 retired, and now has reached her second 15k QF to follow the one she reached in Stellenbosch end of last year. Really hope she can get a 3rd counter soon, as I'm impressed by her play, and she deserves to get a ranking as she clearly has potential to rise further, once she can get into draws more easily.
This smashes Emilie's career best win too - was 797 from the aforesaid Stellenbosch wins, whilst today's opponent is ranked 675.

Nell's match remains tight, but she is a set down now, so may find it hard to manage a way back against the 6th seed. One break each 2nd set so far 4-6 2-2*
With no national ranking(doesn't play in the UK) , it is imperative that she finds some poor tournaments to get into and have a chance of picking up a point to get that elusive ranking.
Next week is much stronger and she will have to qualify against a much stronger entry list.
She has a national Spanish ranking, doesn't she?
Thought I saw one last time I looked. So that works just like a UK one.
Although oobviously a wta ranking would be far better!
Go, Emilie.

No problem, she will just have to win this tournament.

No national ranking shows for her on entry lists which leaves her far down. Certainly none on recent lists so don't know if she had a Spanish one but lost it or what ...

Just saw that Bet365 have Emilie a massive 1/7 favourite to beat the seeded Vulpio (who is 4/1) in the QF.
Never seen either of them live. But those odds seem very harsh against Vulpio - she has a good track record - can't believe it should be that one-sided. But hopefully I am completely wrong!
