Jay did some really good work in out rallying Mmoh from sometimes difficult positions to get from *0-30 to *40-30 but then a couple of loose shots undid the good work and he was broken.
Poor end to the match from Jay, broken to love with more loose shots and a DF. The earlier intensity and full focus in the second set seemed to wane rather towards the end.
I missed the first set but overall Mike Cation was very complimentary about Mmoh at the end of commentary, saying that was the best he'd seen him play on a clay court.
In the second set Jay competed very well at times but didn't stretch these periods long enough and was inconsistent at other times.
Wants the wins of course but more good experience gained and he is moving in the right direction.
L16: Jay Clarke WR 236 lost to (4) Michael Mmoh (USA) WR 144 (CH = 141 last September) by 6-2 6-3
Hopefully Jay is continuing to build in confidence with this constant progression through qualifying, now straight into the main draw and then getting deeper into what are high quality challenger fields. Very pragmatic to have gone back to futures for a bit, build some form and take that forward upto the next level of talent and competition. Lots to learn tactically, an exciting time to follow Jay.

Actually I would have thought that Jaggy would be pleased with such progress from Luke & Jonny. For when I wondered in the recent Mexico City challenger thread whether this might be looked back on as the start of a partnership that really develops, Jaggy was pretty quick with:
"Yes the world of tennis will be startled and I expect this to be the start of headline sports news in the years to come...... "

Will be rapt
Must've missed that one. Then again, his posts are often so full of bile that I tend not to read them...
Big difference between wit and humour and bile, but then I guess its all relative to background and perspective. I would consider bile to be for example one of the tweets another poster has been making this week that has prompted ridicule in Scotland.
