Perhaps he just wanted to play some team tennis with some guys he knows well. Being part of a team was a very big part of his life while his in college, a change can be as good as a rest.
If they win that one, they'll face the predominantly (according to Farah's bio on the ATP site, his favourite surface is hard!) clay court specialists, Juan Sebastián Cabal & Robert Farah, in the quarter-final. The Colombians saw off Kontinen & Peers, the second seeds, by 5-7 6-2 [18-16] earlier. A banana skin, methinks...

Kontinen and Peers seem to be having a really tough struggle this season, just cant seem to buy a decent result.
So that's the first, second, fifth, seventh & eighth seeds which have bitten the dust, or rather the devil dirt... Kontinen & Peers aren't the only ones who can't buy a decent win at the moment!
Have to say, the last 8 field in MC is looking like a proper Masters last 8 for the first time in quite some time. Each player left is a top 8 seed (6 of them) or a quality player, ie Gasquet or Nishikori (interesting that Gasquet has come back after losing to Kyle last week).
Nadal v Thiem
Dimitrov v Goffin (good return from Goffin)
Gasquet v Sascha Zverev
Nishikori v Cilic (US Open final revisited)
Thats probably the strongest line up in any tournament last 8 in the past 12 months I would say, in terms of talent and past performance. Shame a Brit isnt part of it.
The other interesting feature is that apart from Nadal and Thiem, I wouldnt call it a typical clay court last 8, not sure if surface is playing quickly or this bodes well for all courters over the clay season ahead
Wow, Rafa spanked Thiem 0 and 2. His form in DC last week and this week in MC suggests he will be hard to beat on clay this season. He might well keep that number one ranking on this form.
Rafa reaches the final by easily beating dimitrov and nishikori is a rather surprise finalist. Well done to him, good week an good to see him back.
A Nadal win would see him stay at number one, a nishikori win would see Nadal drop to second and nishikori go up to 12th from 34th at the start of the week. Lose and he's around 22nd.
Hard not to favour Nadal winning but my preference is to see nishikori get what would be a massive win.
