OK Bob. Enough of this doom and gloom. Kyle reached his first ever ATP final this week and will start next week on a new CH ranking of 23. If you had offered me that on 1st January, I would have taken it.
Kedders.. Such a let down. He does seem to over think it some times, brain freeze. Obviously thinking about the outcome rather than staying in the here and now.
Oh come on all you doom and gloomers. Cheer up a bit, aye? Whilst not the outcome we wanted, he did play 3 matches in 2 days and is runner up. Plenty of chances yet for him to win a title.
Nerves and such can happen to so many - watching the Dimitrov/Kygrios Masters final last year, that was not a great match by any stretch of the imagination.
Some of my previous concerns have been how the occasion and match situations did seem to get to Kyle rather more than his peers with all these third set defeats and relative fade aways against well ranked players who he would compete well with for over two sets.
I didn't see it but sounds more just the occasion this time with him never really getting into a decent "match situation" and it wasn't against a high ranked player.
How was his body language today? That, which I had brought up as an issue for some time, was so much better at the Australian Open. He looked more of a presence to the opposition and the occasional jog into position and more than occasional genuine fist pump I would have thought helped motivate him. It was very encouraging along with of course the results. He looked as if he had been previously keeping it all far too within.
Still as Bob indicates, it HAS overall been a good start to the year, a very good start. Just hope he can pick it up again in Monte Carlo and learn from whatever went very wrong today.
Cracking start he played to his seeding, did any of the other seeds. Great to see him in a final bit its gone now, hopefully he will loose in much more impressive finals in the future. Very early doors for the clay court season and this must be his best start toime ever! Bring on Monte Carlo and the beach, its a hard life.
In terms of rankings, this is like losing a ATP 250 final to Glasspool. Just saying
In terms of experience, its like losing to someone who is a two time former champion. And without being disrespectful to Lloyd, he doesn't have a CH ranking of 32 just a couple of years back.
Agreed that is was a "bad day at the office" for Kyle, but we all have them.
Andujar rises to 154 in live rankings. Well done to him and maybe Barcelona and Madrid will give him a wc to recognise his come back and win. Well done to him.
