Week 15 - ITF ($25K) - Obidos, Portugal Carpet

Maia broken twice and loses three in a row. Last of those games, her service game, she reached 40 first and and had two Ads, but failed to take all the GPs. Getting frustrated because of hitting heavy forehand and backhand shots from Rodionova into the net... bows her head a few times, swishes the racket... and eventually throws the racket. Probably not helping her, she is playing the top seed.

And loses 2-6 2-6, even though many of the games were competitive. Maia's unforced error count too high, but Rodionova has good deep ground strokes and was often putting pressure on Maia, making it hard for her to stay in rallies. She will be disappointed the score wasn't closer, but the outcome never looked much in doubt. Very tough first round match.

Looks like they have moved the solitary camera over onto court 2, so no live stream for Katie B. At least, I can't find one.
3-5* after a longish game.

Yes, Katie's match does have a camera.. on livestreams.

She's looking a bit rusty, and there is a gale blowing, which doesn't help matters. But her opponent is also playing better than her rank suggests... moving Katie about the court well on some rallies rather than vice versa. There are some long rallies, significantly longer than Maia's match.... and Katie has it all to do now, losing the first set 3-6, after that break in her last service game.

Yes, she is playing badly. A lot of errors, and no control, hitting the ball rather down the middle. Gets broken to love start of the second set. Needs to improve fast now to stay in this match.

The courts have no floodlights, so play is restricted to day time only. With the late start and the rain, that doesn't help their scheduling.

Breaks back and better serving 3-6 2-1*

Katie clicking better now, breaks again, and on her next service game hits 3 aces, 1 DF and an unreturned serve... ie her opponent did not get a single ball back during the game wink 4-1*

Thanks Michael. I have tried clearing all my history and it still didn't work. Will have to try a different browser - I use Safari as the default on my Macbook

I have a Mac too... am viewing on Google Chrome, but Firefox works for me too.

The bounce on the court is a bit uneven at times, can keep a bit low. There are a lot of foot marks along the baseline too on the 'carpet'. I assume it is swept each day. Don't know how it reacts to the rain, but assume it takes longer to dry than a hard court, hence the late start today.

Didn't watch all the next two games, but after that brilliant service game, Katie gets broken the next and is now back on serve this set cry 3-6 4-3*

Better hitting from Katie, moving her opponent around finally. Breaks again, and now serving for the set *5-3
