Week 14 - WTA Premier ($800K) - Charleston, USA Clay

The first set is over. There were 9 games and 8 breaks of serve. Heather was broken in all 5 of her service games. Taylor had 3 break and 1 hold.

Heather loses the first set 3/6

Heather finally hold service in her 7th service game (to love with her first ace)

Heather should hang about in Japan around Fed Cup time and play the big challengers really.

Missed 3 points for *5-2 and another 4 for *5-4 in the second set. Most were wasted.

And she's broken to lose 63 64.

It was an awful match from both, let's be honest

Absolutely zero confidence, every time she had a chance to stamp her authority on the match she just got so tight. Losing streak extends to 7. Brutal.

There's no there, there anymore.
Is Naomi the true GB #2? Her case is made in a few minutes.
The WTA side of things is inversely proportional to the ITF's in 2018.

Such a disappointing result in what looked like a very winnable match for Hev. Very poor quality all round and plenty of UEs from Townsend should have provided a real opportunity for Heather to make some progress in this tournament. I'm not sure where she goes from here, but I feel she needs to review her coaching situation. She's never really been the same since she split from Veronelli

 No. Naomi is even worse.

If anyone is no.2 it's Gabi Taylor.

Interesting. Katie B has had quality of ranking wins ( beaten Townsend twice recently plus Zhao, who Naomi currently is finding tough ) and generally has had a much tougher schedule but Gabi has had many more matches, been consistently good and got the Ws.

Without looking more into all the recent wins and losses it's probably still arguable on a number of fronts including still Hev, or maybe Naomi, again contrasting the general opposition, though losing to Townsend in an evidently poor match is not clever at all.

Where she should have maybe went is to the Monterrey ( and Mexico generally ) hard courts that have served her well before even when seemingly having been out of form.

This is true, I wonder the 'why' of this tournament over Monterrey?

Yes I agree with that.  It's proved successful for Naomi and having her around would have helped Heather too.

Wow! Petra lost to a fellow Czech! From a set up!
Truly the end times are nigh.

Just before that though, Johanna will be on in a moment.

Jo should be on next but the site says not until 12.00 am so I guess we will have to wait an hour.
