Week 14 - WTA International ($250K) - Monterrey, Mexico - Hard

Going quite well, but finishing has been a problem, so let's wait a bit...
6-3 *5-6

In her last 11 matches Naomi has lost the second set 5-7 6 times.

EDIT: Oh I misread the scoreboard and thought she had lost the second set 5-7 in this match.

Other than a blip mid way through the second, that was a tidy performance for a 63 67(5) 62 win.

Played some good stuff.

21 aces and just 6 DFs. Very favourable W to UE ratio as well. Obviously will be a lot tougher in the next round regardless of who it is, particularly if it is indeed Babos.

Good bit of coaching there in the third set - her game really picked up again afterwards
And a LOT of winners !

Quite impressed. First set superb, Zhao couldn't cope with Naomi's power, second set was tight, but Naomi looked the better player.
Easy third set from the break which killed Zhao.
Well done the new coach.

Yes, the coaching  seemed really helpful.

Who is the coach? Glad to see a) there is someone there, and b) the person is making a difference!

Matt Evans, a coach at Bolton Arena where her friend and former coach Suzi Riley is performance director.

Good to hear. Naomi does seem a player who maybe really does benefit from a coach constantly reinforcing what her strengths are and to return to them.
