Week 14 - USA F9 ($25,000) - Memphis, TN (hard)

Well done Jack - closing in on top 1000.

Yes, Jack's updated 11 points ( and from so few tournaments ) will certainly already be enough for top 1000 and provisionally have him as GB #25.

Ryan P's updated 15 points should have him top 900 and provisionally GB #22.

Now a further 5 points for reaching the SFs would be very nice.

Yes a decent set of results so far this week for the Futures guys. Hopefully they can convert the promising starts to the week into something really good points wise!

Yes, that's the most important thing ultimately from the week.

For now I did think it was still a quite remarkable R1 effort if I assume all a bit coincidental after the general slow start to the year by most. But I sense folk seem more generally underwhelmed

Sorry didnt mean to come across as being negative. I was really pleased with the overall set of R1 results and its great that so many of them did it in the same week. What i was trying to convey was that it is even better if they can convert R1 success into something a bit more as , as we all know, it is reaching SFs and further that can give the guys a real leg-up rankings wise. As I write this Ryan Peniston has made the QFs and (following on live scores) I am so impressed with the fighting qualities shown today so far by Jack F-H. Currently hes at 3-3 in the final set against Monette

Sorry, you didn't, and I certainly agree that SFs and beyond are what really racks up points.

It was unfortunate that I added the folk "generally underwhelmed"  in my reply to you for I really did mean folk in general after I'd done my woopee doopee clap clap clap for the 7 out of  7

Very good that we have had these late results to improve today ( and 25K ones ) from a win point of view.

Apologies again.

No need to apologise!! Im relatively new to the forum (although not new to supporting british tennis - I can remember Virginia Wade winning Wimbledon in 1977!!!!) and am genuinely delighted when our guys (and women) do well.  Good luck to Jack and Ryan P (and also Ryan S) for tomorrow.

Interesting that the two men are having such a good run in the US.
I know that, having been there so long, they must be very comfortable in the American environment.
It's true that Portugal was a bust last month for Jack (on the singles front).
Ryan hasn't even played this year, and his last outing in Qatar was a similar bust, as was Greece before that.
America certainly seems to suit. And I thank her and her tennis system :)
(From a purely personal and selfish point of view, though, do hope they're not over there looking for full-time coaching jobs).

Jack's trip was planned. I mentioned it on the Shrewsbury thread. Ryan is still at college there.

Yes. But planned why?
No, seriously, I know it's a bit early yet to be suspicious.....just always on the lookout.....
NB I saw that Ryan P and Rob Carter won some Essex dubs thing at Xmas. I thought Ryan had finished, being a man start. But guess he has a few months left if you say he is still in college. Graduates this june then?

I would be very suprised if Jack is looking to coach just yet, I think he will really enjoy the grass court season and should get some opportunities. Well worth giving the futures tour a real crack for at least a couple of years, he has Wardy potential.

I agree, Oakie. As said, I also think it's too early. I was just throwing it out as a 'what if'. In a bottle half empty sort of way.

I think Ryan dropped a semester and played the tour, a bit like Gosea.
Jack FH coach told me Portugal and then US and Mexico. I assume there are connections via the coach and Jack's college days to the US and it is a cheap option.

The QFs appear to have lost out to the weather.

Now on the order of play for Saturday with SFs scheduled as well.

Does that mean SE for both or is it too late?

Only Jack entered for next week's Arkansas 25K.

But if he's still here and can't make qualifying in Arkansas he must be in line. I'm not sure about anyone else with a claim.

Arkansas will be a 64 man qualifying draw.

How many SEs are available for the MD the next week? Is it arbitrary ie at the whim of the next organising commmittee? Dependent on space available ie the capacity to rejig qualifying? It seems a very good system in line with the whole concept of developing players as the last thing you would want to do is disadvantage this doing well.

As far as I understand it there should be 2 SEs avaliable. I get confused between Challenger and Futures rules but you have to be in either the same country or continent the week before to Be eligible. If there are more players than places available then I believe its decided by ranking. I.e the top two.
