GB Player of the Month

Toss up for me between Dan and Heather. Dan gets my vote for his performance this week alone, unless Heather can win two more matches and a title.

Dan edges it for me based on the quality of his opponent, apparently the only player with a better top 20 win record this year is Djokovic, thats some company to be sharing.

So just to recap - I will set up a poll for nominations on Monday so we can all vote.

Also, no one has nominated Heather yet, so she needs to be nominated by someone to get onto the poll. Anyone want to nominate Heather, please go ahead (I could do myself but having nominated a couple of others dont want to dominate proceedings!!).
As soon as I see her nomination, I will add her to the list.

I'll nominate Heather, she definitely deserves to be a contender.

So we have the following Brits still in this wwek/month who may or may not get to the list if they end the week very strongly - suspect it will take a title for any of these to bother the nomination list (other than Heather?)

Heather W - Acapulco (on nomination list in fact)

Jonny O'M - Santiago Doubles - noting that the title here would jump from 7th to 4th rated Brit.

Liam B - Calgary singles

Liam B. / Scott C - Calgary doubles

Lloyd G - Colombus doubles

Jack D - Sunderland singles

Sam M - Sunderland singles

Emma R - Sunderland singles

Not sure the ITF doubles players are worth noting in respect of this ? Although someone may disagree with that!

I dont track juniors so much so if anyone feels there is a junior worthy of a nomination for player of the month in February, outside the U12 girls team, please feel free to shout!

Nothing major in the women's ITF doubles. There are some finalists this week, but I wouldn't put them forward for a nomination (Lissey/Olivia and Anna P) - nothing of note earlier this month.

I don't follow the women's game anything like as much as the men's game, but from what I have seen, that is a great shout. Heather deserves to be on the list.

If Jonny O'Mara takes the title in Chile, I will nominate him for the list.

Definitely not too low. Liam B now making a late run too, reaching the SF in Calgary.

Any other month we woud be scrapping the barrel to name 1 deserving of the award, this month its a plethora of riches, still going with Dan, due to the level of the tournament and quality of his opponents. Another month I'd be going for Henry Patten or even Eva Shaw.

Technical question: some of this weekends action and results/achievements will actually take place in March.
What is the rule to be?

  • Achievements by the month in which the tournament in which they occurred started, and thus not considered for the subsequent month - potentially the month of the best result from said tournament?
  • Achievements only considered in the Month of the actual final best result?
  • Either/Both, can qualify for two months?
