Davis Cup 2018 Quarterfinals

The USA tied up there match as expected and move through to semis.

If Croatia get through, that semi would be quite tasty, in Croatia I believe

The Nadal/Zverev match is apparently the first top 10 draw since Andy/Kei in 2016.

However, just because there hasn't been 2 top 10 players or what have you, doesn't mean all the ties have been rubbish so...
*shrug* *sigh*

I like the DC as it is, other than the schedule.

Indeed - and rafa crushes zverev in 3 sets, looking good on the clay!

Match 2-2 now, ferrer v Kohlschreiber.  Toss up I reckon.

Pouille beating Fognini 2 sets to 1,  Pouille seems to perform well in DC from recent ties, if my memory serves.

And Pouille wins in 4 sets to tie up the match for France.

Cilic is 6-1 6-1 up so looking like France v Spain/Germany and Croatia v USA.

Ferrer takes first set 7-6 v Kohlschreiber. tight.

Into a fifth set in Valencia, anyone's match. 4 hours in.

Long live the Energiser Bunny. Ferrer takes it 7-5 in the 5th set of the deciding rubber. What drama.

Incredible from Spain!

Also, Rafa: Nadal's record over 5 sets on clay improves to an extraordinary 104-2.

Super stuff.

Hope the kids weren't too bored, Leon.

There appears to be a fairly extraordinary disconnect regarding Davis Cup between these within tennis and these who follow it.

Or is it more the most vocal within tennis pushing international team tennis on a very different path ...

Prediction - itf will drop world cup idea, players prefer the ATP week in January and that will happen.

DC will move to a two year cycle of some sort with 4 rounds over two years and the second year in the even year between Olympics. Won't take place in an Olympic year so effectively will become every 4 years. Same home and away cycle though

Or something like that as a.compromoe across the board.

Watch this space - this is my bold prediction

France play Spain at home, interesting to see what they choose as a surface and venue - indoor, Paris?

Croatia home to USA - clay no doubt

Noah Yannick mentioned Guadalupe/some sort of island :o

It's a shame the tour has the "sunshine double" where they do/2 Masters in quick succession. Perhaps a space could be found there in each year bar Olympic years.
