Who actually is in realistic contention for these? Last couple of years they've just used 6 up.
You'd like to think Norrie will do enough in the next couple of months not to need one, but will obviously get one if needed. Broady and Clarke look extremely likely, so that's 2 or 3. Jury out on Evans, but after that there's not too many other potentials. Probably a solid performer on the upcoming grass challengers like Fucsovic last year. What about that young Spanish lad Fokina who won the boys last year? Reckon he will get a WC or just a QWC? He's 455 at the moment and has done OK in recent futures, but not really in the challengers.
Realistic contention for British MD WCs ? Not really anyone beyond the aforementioned Liam and Jay if Cam gets in to the MD on ranking. I can't see Evo getting a MD one ( small chance maybe if he really comes out with good attitude and results ) and James Ward is surely just a no-no ( with no sign of good enough results coming ). Jonny does have a Vietnam futures title from last November and some others have quite a few late 2017 points in such race points as they have. But looking at this year alone essentially only 4 players have done much at all in the way of winning and gathering points and the overall rankings are not there either.
Neil Pauffley has had some decent wins but not consistently enough over a week so is just the best of the rest in points this year of a pretty low scoring bunch. Someone like say Alex Ward would have to really get on and produce some very significant results for anyone to be in with a shot beyond Liam and Jay on any sort of normal LTA/AELTC criteria. I suspect that it is historically fairly, well, awful that our 5th player going into April has gathered just 14 points and our 6th 9 points ( probably even if a fit Andy and Evo had these as 7th and 8th respectively ). Pity.
2018 points to date ( including any scored last week but still to be added ) :
In points this year he is still firmly in my below 20 points this year group above that trail way behind what have been our four relatively big points gatherers and only prior at least challenger level players this year. Jack F-H is now 5th with just 17 points this year. Good for him but so few points for our year's 5th top scorer. We certainly do need largely restored Andy, Evo and James. Alex Ward I assume has fitness issues again, while such as Klein, Corrie and Glasspool have lost their way and others are still a way off challenger level.
Re a Wimbledon MD WC surely James still has got a great deal to prove though probably more likely and capable than these others and possibly still time to become a bit less of a "no no" than I said before. For now though, after Cam, if he gets in by right, only Liam and Jay have a case, and clearly very big cases with these two.
James is though now in running actually our #5 ranking points scorer for 2018 points with his R1 win in Mexico on top of his qualifying points taking him to 18, one point more than Jack F-H.
Yes, big difference in consideration for the British men and women.
For the women most of the initial WCs seem clear. It's more who gets MD ones. Broady, Boulter and Taylor surely. But Dart, Robson and Dunne are also currently top 230, though Laura for one has big points to defend, and Swan is still younger and top 300.
For the men if Cam makes the MD on ranking then there is only really Liam and Jay making cases ( and probably conclusive ones ) for MD WCs and then re qualifying ones I think a lot more thought will be needed than going down the ranking list and just picking many of the "usual crowd" considering variable results and ages. Evo is a complication - may have to settle for a Q WC. James shoudn't at the moment be any real complication re a MD one - err no unless and until he really produces in the time that remains.

I think Ace Ventura's synopsis is pretty good and it is very sad. The only thing I would add is if anyone does well in any of the Challengers in Glasgow and Loughborough from a Brits perspective, or indeed the 3 grass challenger events and maybe the two ATP events, then they may come to the fore. So far in Glasgow, Lloyd is still in the last 16 and James Ward and Aiden McHugh are still alive but havent played. I reckon if one of those reaches the semis this week (or indeed anyone reaches the other 4 challenger semis or a couple of quarters) they will get themselves a WC. Whether any of the 3 left can make it that far is a bit of a stretch, but for now 3 are alive
