Weeks 12 & 13 - ATP Masters 1000 - Miami Open, FL (hard)

Bigger news than Kyle! Federer loses to Kokkinakis!

First of all amazing, I have always liked Kokkinakis and his game, his injuries held him back but this is great for him and I hope it is the start of a great period for him.

Secondly, Rafa goes back to number one in the world, wow.

Anyone fancy predicting any results from this point forwards???!

PS Shame re Kyle, really hoped he would win but the above shows there is nothing predicatable in the game right now, keep on going Kyle

Meantime Fed loses another final set TB, this time 7-4 to Kokkinakis in his first ( and last ) match here.

Rafa will go back to WR 1. Good work, Rafa

Good win for Jamie also, and Dom in a tussle with the Bryans, won first set, down a break at 5-3 in 2nd. heading for an MTB.

Worth saying twice in my book. I like Fed but dont love him...so Kokkinakis winning is v welcome in my book. Now if Nick K and Thomas K could both reach the heights their talents  deserve, a new era of Aussie dominance could be on us...wont happen but I can think of worse things to be frank. tennis always benefits when the Aussies are doing well.

In the grand scheme of things I do think Fed is a fair bit past his best ( and understandably so, great as he has done in the way he has kept going ) and has to an extent been getting away with murder with the relatively poor and inconsistent opposition.

If we get a few of the older top players back anything near to their best, while the younger players continue to progress, we might yet have a very interesting season.

No wonder Andy is so keen to get back.

Dom & Marcus sadly unable to assert themselves in the end:

L32:  (4) Bob Bryan & Mike Bryan CR 18 (9+9) defeated Marcus Daniell (NZL) & Dom Inglot CR 86 (35+51) by 6-7(3) 6-4 [10-3]

Sense at last! Federer recent slam wins are not a new period of form for him, but the opposition is complete......

When Andy and Novak were going head to head 2015-16, nobody at current could touch them.

totally agree! I think Federer is a fantastic player but I don't like all this hero worship by the US fans they are so one-sided in their support. Kokkinakis was always highly tipped good for him to win after struggling badly with injury. It is time the younger players like Kyrgios Cheung etc came forwarded and showed no fear against Federer Nadal etc because let us face it Berdych Anderson Goffin Isner etc will never trouble them

I was disappointed when I saw Kyle's result this morning, but thanks for the match reports.

now that is disappointing . I know it has been said before,  but I'm not convinced Jamie and Bruno are getting the best out of their partnership. Still,  this year's doubles seems all over the place like the singles and indeed the ladies and they are 4th in the Race so I guess worth sticking at it.
