And in this v weird tournie, two qualies drew each other in round one; one ranked 1074, the ranked mid 700's. Golden ticket for one of those two guys!
Which makes the Norrie non entry even more hard to fathom.
Edit - Rinderknech, ranked at 1074 and a qualifier wins this first round match and gets through to last 16. His ranking will rise something like 200 plus places now and somewhere close to Dan Evans who is 799 in live rankings!

Slight contrast between the singles main and qualifying draws !!!
Last direct singles entry is 108 for a challenger, big challenger though it may be.
Seems Cam and other decently ranked players had no interest in qualifying, leaving that futures level qualifying draw and an ATP 250 like main draw.
Crazy stuff ...
Every year, this sends me crazy, THERE IS NO NEED TO HAVE 2 WEEK LONG MASTERS. The reason they make it 2 weeks, is so that they can fit in the womens' tourn to run parallel. As a result, all players drop out in first week, then you get this challenger, that is far stronger than all Asian ATP 500/250.
I'd say this, along with the fact that Egypt has 50 futures a year, must be one of the worst decision made on the tennis circuit.

One way to solve this would be to have the Men at one tournament, and the Women at the other, then to swap around after a week long break for challengers etc.
