Boys: 31st Sarawak Chief Minister's Cup (I) ITF Junior Tennis Championship, hard - Grade 1 (Week 11)

Jack Draper appears on the drawsheet so has hopefully recovered from whatever caused his retirement on Saturday. Connor Thomson joins him,  after a successful week at the Russian G3, and will take on the top seed if he wins his opener

R1 (L48)

Connor Thomson v (Q) Han-Chih Lin (TPE)

(16) Jack Draper bye

Hope Jack is ok and not pushing myself. Good that he sneaked into a seeding position too.

Could be another battle tomorrow for Jack against another Japanese boy, who is in the top 50, though without any obviously outstanding results

R3

Connor Thomson v (13) Seon Yong Han (KOR)
(16) Jack Draper v (4) Taisei Ichikawa (JPN)

The four semi-finalists from last week face off against each other, in different halves of the draw. Jack takes on the less hyped of the two Czech boys, but still ranked 36

QF

(6) Jonas Forejtek (CZE) v (16) Jack Draper

Jack positively decimated the Czech lad:

QF

(16) Jack Draper def. (6) Jonas Forejtek (CZE) 6-0 6-2

Both GB boys lost their dubs.

Another impressive week for JACK

Should be enough to secure Jack a place in the top 50 for the first time. Another Czech boy next, who has won a good proportion of his matches since moving up to G2/1 level this year, with last week's Czech winner Svrcina still on course for a repeat final.

SF

(16) Jack Draper v (9) Jiri Lehecka (CZE)

As expected we have a repeat of last week's final following two one-sided matches today

SF

(16) Jack Draper d. (9) Jiri Lehecka (CZE) 6-1 6-3

F

(3) Dalibor Svrcina (CZE) v (16) Jack Draper

Well done to Jack - it's been an excellent couple of weeks (and counting).

The Czech lad who beat him last week when Jack had to retire is almost a whole year younger than Jack - it's very impressive, especially considering I think of Jack as being one of our 'tiddlers'.

To be fair to Jack he certainly relatively still is. The Czech lad is a proper outlier phenom.

Indeed with Jack's December 2001 dob, and the next 2002 after Svrcina currently JWR 53, the two finalists look like they may be about to be the two youngest players in the top 50.
