Week 11 - ITF ($25K) - Irapuato, Mexico - Hard

Under way.
Jaksic is (relatively) very popular in Mexico after, some years back, charming the locals with her on-court dancing during deep runs in the WTA Monterrey Event. She said she was probably better known, and more popular in Mexico than back home in Serbia. It's also where she played her best career tennis over several events and years.
Which is to say, Katie might be doing extra well to get the result.
*0-1

Not sure why Jaksic's ranking has dipped so much in the last few years from being just outside the top 100 at age 20. She seems to have had a fairly full ITF activity.

Anyway don't be choosing today to get reacquainted with anything too close to that level of tennis.

Katie has now retired. She retired in her last tournament too, so it seems she may well have an injury that has not fully cleared up since she last played... cry

So both Katie's out in less than 2 rounds. Not a great tournament at all.

If that's true and the same niggling injury from Brazil where she lost the last 2 sets comprehensively, it doesn't bode too well for Katie Boulter.

Real pity for Katie S, especially after the pretty big clay training block she did, not just to have her intended South American clay tournaments being a retirement and then a pull out, but now having to retire here

Edit : yes, actually she did complete her previous tournament as blob says. Without knowing the issue(s), with the fall away then, missing the following week and now retiring here, I do wonder if she maybe should have retired then.

Ms. Swan also retired 3 times in 2017 - joint lead for that year amongst Brits, tied with Mandy.

I don't think she did retire last tournament, just faded away with what we supposed was an injury based on the result and an MTO being announced. She did finish the match, and RET was not the declared result.

Seems it is more productive right now to be a Katy than a Katie.

Am I the only person who gets really annoyed when someone knocks out a fellow Brit and then retires in the next round? Even if it is a genuine injury.

I see Katie B has managed to get a QWC for Miami.
