Week 11 - ITF ($25K) - Irapuato, Mexico - Hard

Swan breaks for a second time and now leads *6-5. Conversation rate up to 25%, so 2 from 8 chances.

About even, on balance, I'd say.

However, a single win isn't much good for either. Can't get the second or subesquent ones without the first though.

Yeah, both could definitely do with a run here for different reasons. Pretty unlucky that they drew each other in the first round.

Swan holds to 30 after being 0-30 down and now leads 7-5 2-0*.

Probably wanted Boulter to win tbh, but while it's just 1 break, can't really see her coming back. She has just held to love though. *2-1.

Katie Swan wins 7-5 6-2. Boulter only had 1 BP the whole match which she converted early in the first.

Why did you want Boulter to win?

Probably generally prefer her and I've seen a match of hers live, plus, shot term, might have been more important in terms of FO qualifying. I'm not clued up on the exact details, but with points coming off, may soon slip out of the qualifying positions, whereas I don't think Swan at circa 300 has much chance of getting in them.

Who did you want to win?

Well, great win for Katie S, but Katie B now has some rebuilding to do. With that loss she is slipping away from the top 200 and is going to start being passed by more Brits than just Gabi.

This is the second time they've played and Katie S has won both matches now. Next match will have its challenges too. A former near top 100 player.

R32: Katie SWAN (GBR) 289=CH beat Katie BOULTER (GBR) [4] 189=CH vs 7-5 6-2

R16: Katie SWAN (GBR) 289=CH vs Jovana JAKSIC (SRB) 308 (CH:104 May 14)

Swan.  For similar reasons in that I have seen her play a few times and she needs the points too with a few to come off soon.  Re. FO, I dont think Boulter has the game or experience for clay and may be better giving it a miss and focusing on hard and then prepping for grass.

Definitely on the fence here, as like most would like to see both girls do well. Like many on here I have seen both girls play and couldnt really choose one over the other in terms of their games in terms of preference as a spectacle. Katie B missed the end of juniors due to injury so although doing well we never really got to see how good she could have been from an age group slam, grade A/1 perspective

Katie S almost made it right to the top and transitioned early to senior Tennis which in my heart of hearts makes me feel she will in time be a WTA touring pro. I would love to see Katie B prove me wrong I cant think of anything more frustrating than loosing a year to injury and would love to see her hang on to Gabis coat tails as she ploughs through the triple digits this year, but..... a Katie B win here would have given me a bit of confidence that might happen and it wasnt to be. Onwards

Katie B's big injury ( & possibly illness ) year out was from early 2015 after she had left juniors. I didn't recall serious prior issues and looking back I see that she played a full split junior/seniors schedule in 2014, playing all four junior Slams and a few more juniors but predominately seniors in number of tournaments. She had a none too shabby, but not absolute top, JCH 10 from March 2014.

Anyway hope she can pick things up again. It is still relatively early in the year, she hardly appears to be playing awfully, possibly no more than a slight dip after that good 2017, so I wouldn't be reading too much into that or defeat to KS. Yes, longer term I do think KS will probably go higher but loads of time for both if a bit more for KS.

Shame they had to meet in the 1st round.

Hopefully Katie Swan now goes on to get some big points.
