Ominous for Fed Cup, as Naomi Osaka thrashes fifth seed, Karolina Pliskova, 6-2 6-3, to make the semi-finals of her first Premier Mandatory.
With apologies to Lewis Carroll: ominouser and ominouser. Osaka completely outclasses Halep, the world number 1, 3 & 0, to make the final. The new generation are battering down the door, as Osaka plays Kasatkina for the IW crown, as the later fought past Venus from a set down.
If both play as they have through the fortnight so far, it should be a great match.

Plus earlier on concern about Osaki, but then was rather outnumbered by but she's soo nice.
Yes, re the women's side, it has been the side in general at top level that to me has been much the more interesting and better watch for some time now and I am sure that's not just because of Andy not being there ( though clearly that would be good for us here ). At least Del Potro won and we won't have a SF line up of Fed and 3 players with at best a WR 37. And indeed a fit and restored Del Potro could really help the men's side just now and he seems nice too - plus I guess Raonic is on the comeback and Coric on the up.
If you are wondering why I keep insisting it's hard to root against Osaka, just watch her winners speech, and see if you can't help but like her by the end https://twitter.com/WTA/status/975456599396442112
