Ominous for Fed Cup, as Naomi Osaka thrashes fifth seed, Karolina Pliskova, 6-2 6-3, to make the semi-finals of her first Premier Mandatory.

With apologies to Lewis Carroll: ominouser and ominouser.
Osaka completely outclasses Halep, the world number 1, 3 & 0, to make the final.
The new generation are battering down the door, as Osaka plays Kasatkina for the IW crown, as the later fought past Venus from a set down.

If both play as they have through the fortnight so far, it should be a great match.

The women's side of the tournament has been much better and exciting than the men's.

Missed the semis, but Kasatkina's first set against Kerber, 6-0, 6-2 in the QFs, was astounding.

Well, I showcased the SFs in advance

Plus earlier on concern about Osaki, but then was rather outnumbered by but she's soo nice.

Yes, re the women's side, it has been the side in general at top level that to me has been much the more interesting and better watch for some time now and I am sure that's not just because of Andy not being there ( though clearly that would be good for us here ). At least Del Potro won and we won't have a SF line up of Fed and 3 players with at best a WR 37. And indeed a fit and restored Del Potro could really help the men's side just now and he seems nice too    -  plus I guess Raonic is on the comeback and Coric on the up.

Yeah, Naomi Osaka is probably going to win this now after we bigged her up. And good for her she's reached the final smile

As for the Fed Cup... we'll deal with that when we get there. wink

Osaka won, thrashing Kasatkina in a damp squib final.
Yay!... erm... grrrr!

Perhaps this will put the pressure on Japan now... erm...

(Well done Naomi - the victory promises to at least be very good news for the tour if it means the lasting emeregence of Osaka in the upper echelons)

If you are wondering why I keep insisting it's hard to root against Osaka, just watch her winners speech, and see if you can't help but like her by the end

Not if it corrupts me into liking her. Boo, hiss

Will nearly double her ranking points and half her ranking, obliterating her existing CH 40. She will be up 22 places to WR 22.
