On the showing of the first set: How did Reix ever reach the final?

Gabi's footwork is very good, and it pays dividends here, as the court is now very worn, and the bounce pretty uneven, but good movement and small adjustment steps give her plenty of time to address the issue; several times, as the ball has shot low, Gabi has changed to a short slice to pick it up, where as Reix has flapped at similar balls, and generally had a tantrum: Reix's Pieces, if you will.

applause emoji for that one, blob.

She started very badly but Gabi took full advantage and didn't give her an inch in that first set.

After a tough first two games, Gabi now in control 4-1.

Reix a bit more game, and Gabi a bit of a flat patch saw the Frenchwoman draw back to 4-3. Gabi dug in and broke the little run despite the first serve going a bit AWOL.
One game away, 6-0 5-3*

Great point construction, running Reix all over the shop, 40-30* championship point...

Gabi wins!!! But woah, Reix must've hit her racket into the grass 6 times after match point, then proceeded to throw her racket.

Reix's reaction at the end was mildly amusing to say the least. Good job Gabi, there's something very... relaxing (?) about her style of play. I'm a fan

Yay

Classy finish by Reix not, but so much to like about Gabi just now.

You can slice Gabi's last 6 month's or 2018 any way you like. It' all amazing, and unprecedented.
It's unbelievable and fantastic.
3 $25K in 4 weeks, 5 $25K in a year in under a year
17-1 on the year (94.4%)
And on and on it goes

That was scintillating from Gabi on both wings. Very few errors. Reix looked as though she couldn't care for most of the match - languid and disinterested - until after that final point when she totally smashed her racket. But she had been totally smashed by that point, Gabi had eaten and chewed her up worse than the fate her racket suffered at the end.

F: TAYLOR, Gabriella (GBR) 1 192 beat SHERAZAD, Reix (FRA) 2 249 CH=204 11/7/16 6-0 6-3

We now have as many >=$25K ITF titles already in 2018 as we had in the whole of 2017 - Gabi 3, Harriet 1
Since 2000, Only Annie (13), Bally (11) & Johanna (8) now have more >=$25K ITF titles than Gabi
No Brit has won 5 titles at these levels inside a twelve month span, before - Bally managed 4 (some of hers were titles above $25K)

Gabi's new CH following this win will likely be between 175-177 (its not showing yet, and there is still a week of possible movements around her), but that is already comfortably beyond Katie B's CH of 189. Katie will have a chance to put some more points on the board this coming week in Mexico, though they won't show until after Miami, and by then Gabi and Katy D will also have played in the Canberra 60k, making yet another surface change, this time to clay. For now Gabi has some clear space as GB's #4. As blob notes, her start to the year has been simply incredible.

Good luck to Harriet now, who is not doing too shabbily either.

Gabi might as well get some early clay matches in with Roland Garros to come in a couple of months or so

Hopefully Gabi wont win many more, too much success at this level is a marker of failure to progress, rea good to see one chronologically tight grouping of wins and then on to the next level. I think this may have been less of a suprise had Gabi not got sick st Wimbledon juniors, we will never know but she was in good form with the potential to go very deep. In a way a bit of a blessing, I am sure it is a frustration that continues to motivate her but she managed to dodge the British juniir phemon tag andvthe pressure that goes with it.

Regardless a great winning streak time to start targeting tournaments with at least double the prizemoney on offer here at stake.

Congrats to her and Harriet for stella weeks. I hope they can both build on it, and hopefully inspire the rest of the pack too. I'm exited about RG and wimby now.

Whilst I agree Gabby is clearly ready to move up in terms of events she's had this trip planned for a fair few months. Why would she change things last second?

She has a 60K and a 25K left on clay good prep fro the European clay season leading into the French Open. Although if she does win the 60K, she may be tempted to return early. Leave Katy to win the 25k.

I'm sure now she's sat down with her team and looked at the events in April and May and decided what to do now. I'd like to see her try some of the smaller WTA events as well as some of the bigger challenge events.

Oakland, have to disagree with you on winning too much at one level. If that happens over a period of 3/4 years fine but over 3 months no. Look at Vondrousova. She was winning 25k's for fun this time last year and is now top 50 and just beat Jo in Indian Wells.
