Both Gabi and Maddison were having problems on the side serving/ facing into the sun, especially in the second set. Between them they lost 6 games in a row on that side - Maddison 2, Gabi 2, Maddison 2, and then Maddison had 3 BPs against Gabi on Game 7, when Gabi finally won it on her 2 MP. Both players were struggling with ball toss on that side and so were obviously having trouble seeing it.
Maddison is a good player too, in the end her error count shaded Gabi's and that was probably the main difference. Gabi will be happy to have come through in just the two sets.
So both Gabi and Katy avenge their earlier losses against their respective opponents. Maddison still the only player to have beaten Gabi on this Aussi swing. It promises to be a very interesting duel between the two Brits.
Gabi on the revenge trail? After Inglis today, the only player to beat her in 2018, she now faces the penultimate player she lost to, at the tail end of 2017... Katy Dunne.
Hopefully that one will start at 11 as well as I can just about justify staying up until 1am. If that went to a tie break and then decider I'd have been struggling.
Remains to be seen too if the doubles final goes ahead later today. Olivia Tjandramulia, one of their opponents, retired after the first set of her singles QF.
It will be really interesting to see if Katie, Katy, Gabi, Laura, Harriet really tackle clay. I'd imagine a few of them wouldn't have projected being eligible for FO qualifying and it looks like the majority will. How/will their schedules change?
For Gabi, just a second pro doubles title, and her biggest to date; the other, a $10K in 2016.
It's her fifth pro title overall, of which three have come at $25K level.
For Katy, her eighth pro doubles title, and first at $25K level. It's not her biggest though, as she has a $60K from last year.
Her first title on grass; the sixth of those eight titles that she has won alongside a fellow Brit (the other two were with Russians), and the 4th Brit she's helped claim a tital (Harriet x3, Sarah Beth, Katie Boulter, now Gabi)
Her 13th overall career pro title.

its a must really if an option, the prize money on offer even in qualifying is a major consideration when compared with other tournaments where you take into consideration the level of the opposition and your chance of winning. The experience in relation to future career development is also invaluable and non of them play like Naomi. Why would they all go if the opportunity arises.

Gabi should be absolutely fine, with all the time she's spent in Spain. She'll know what clay court tennis is all about.
Harriet and Katy have games that are fine for clay, with a bit of practice.
Katie B too, to a slightly lesser extent.
It's only Laura who's game is not really suited to clay but she has a lot of upside in her game so the important variable for her is her game, not the surface.
But they should all take clay seriously, do the tournaments, and RG qualis - of course they should - and they'll find others in qualis (most US players, for one) who are far more uneasy on clay than them.

Katy has also made SF of WTA event, so can play doubles even if her results are inconsistent.
