Is Katie B just having a 4/5 week vacation? Not massively clued up on the ITF scene, but is a lengthy gap like that without a tournament common practice?

Yes - tend to play acres weeks on the bounce and then have a rest/ training block.

Here's Katie's 2017 & 2018 YTD schedules for reference & comparison:

Though it is pretty early doors in the season and Katie has played relatively little tennis in her 5 singles weeks so far. Played 9, won 4 lost 5. Plus had her Fed Cup doubles in Week 6.

She hasn't really got her season going and her Aus trip being interrupted by Fed Cup didn't help that though clearly was a good experience in itself,

Having had a fairly long close season ( though I am not sure how fit she was going into that ) at least 4 weeks out at this early stage from week 9 through to week 12 ( training block or not ) does on the face of it seem a bit much. As blob shows, in 2017 she had a 4 week gap from week 15, having played 8 out of 12 weeks from her starting week, and that seems much more understandable.

I hope all is well.

There also aren't many tournaments she can enter at the moment. Hard for her yet to get into qualifying in the WTA events, and below that there has really only been the 25k events. From 9th April there is a run of bigger ITF tournaments in the US, but March is slim pickings outside the main tour - the Aussie 60k in Canberra this week that Gabi and Katy D are entered into has a relatively strong field. Katy is 6 out from being in the main draw at the moment.

Regarding Katie Boulter posts above it transpires that she is down for the Mexico 25K in Week 11 along with Katie Swan.

Yes, Katie Boulter confirmed with a Miami WC (in the final paragraph of) http://www.wtatennis.com/news/serena-azarenka-comebacks-headline-miami-wcs

If only she was playing with better form, to take full advantage.

Very dissatisfied with @easyJet online system not working to check in for my flight days before travelling. Turn up to check in at the airport and the flight is overbooked. Poor system. I really hope I can fly and play my match tomorrow in Italy#easyjet

Miami qualifying draw is out. Katie Boulter has a wild card, and Naomi misses being amongst the 24 seeds by a fair few places
