Tough draw for R1 of a 15k. Hope Emily has a good memory.

Her opponent is a bit of an ITF journeyman as well though so an even match up. She also chooses her tournaments wisely with weak fields to inflate the ranking in a similar way to Em so could be a very close one.

Interesting that Em is only done to play singles this week. And once she loses imagine she is off to India, where she is playing next week with Freya. But hope she can stay her departure a few days to cheer herself up too, after her rather dismal singles run here.

Having Mestach play Solovyeva in the first round is a shame.

An-Sophie was a top 100 player not that long ago. (Although only just - and interesting that she is an ex-number 1 in juniors - yet another absolute top junior who hasn't really established herself at the top of adult tennis as you might expect).

Valeria is ex-163. (And also ex-18 in juniors).

Would like to see that match.....

Em did indeed struggle throughout the 1st set, but has fought back in the second to take the match to a decider 2-6 6-4

Looks like Em got a fresh serve out of her bag for the second set. Much improved stats. Could have been more emphatic- served for it at 5-3.

Wow, and the coffee and her serve finally kicked in fully in the third set, so Em ends up with a great win from the match!

Emily plays the 16 yr old winner of a match between two qualifiers next.

Kubanova played, and beat Tiffany William twice last year in Egypt (1 Cairo, 1 Sharm)

Hopefully the match doesn't follow the inverse of yesterday then

The second set is much closer however, and Kubanova has now just taken the first break in it. Common Emily, don't let her take you to a third. 6-1 3-4*
