Week 9 - ITF ($15K) - Heraklion, Greece Clay

The LTA are doing a splendid job, setting out to ensure our players are undefeated at 15k level on these shores in 2018.

The amount that's wasted on huge ITF events during the grass could get at least a few 15k's on the calendar.

That'll do nicely for a first set from Emily today, 6-1

That's exactly what happened yesterday, and today as yesterday, there is now an ensuing toilet break.
Emily found the solution yesterday, can she do so again today?

Good stuff

Last year Emily was very consistent at seeing off lower and unranked players, but with one notable exception not so with decently ranked players.

This year already marking up quite a few encouraging looking wins. Certainly seems to have moved up a step or two.

Not sure about that definition of very consistent, if you mean scores with wild swings in them..

QF: APPLETON, Emily (GBR) [5] 629 beat SCHAEDER, Laura (GER) [2] 457 (CH:277 March 17) 6-1 0-6 6-3

SF: APPLETON, Emily (GBR) [5] 629 vs DETIUC, Anastasia (CZE) [4] 598=CH 19 yrs (JCH:22 Jan 16)

I mean in terms of results. She's consistently getting to QF or better.

Yes, this is her 7th time now since Aug 17, all at 15k level. Of those she has now reached at least the SF 5 times. However Emily has yet to proceed past the L32 of a 25k tournament (or above) and of course she has not yet won a (singles) 15k tournament either.

Bookies have Emily a slight favourite tomorrow at 8/11 vs evens for Detiuc. The other semi finals odds are even closer.

At some point Emily A may get on court today.. That is if the other two semi-finalists ever get off it (#1 and 3 seeds). They are in the first half of the third set now, 2hrs 50 on the clock.
