In the weeks least surprising news, Emily App won a doubles match:

R16: Appleton/Vankova (GBR/CZE) [2] defeated (WC) Gouvernante/Luttikhuis (NED/NED) 6-1 6-0
R16: (WC) Gillan/Caldwell (GBR/USA) lost to Stosic/Turkovic (SRB/CRO) 0-6 2-6

Well Emily is gradually inching her way upwards. Her ranking this week, 629, is just over 100 places upwards from her Wk 1 ranking of 733, principally owing to the 11 points she picked up in the Caribbean in Jan. She will slip back a few places next week, likely to 634, because of others moving up, but if/when she can pick up another 5 points it will move her to the verge of the top 600. She has nothing more than 1 pointers coming off before August, though because she has a full set of counters now, she also needs at least 2 points from a tournament to improve her current ranking.

It was a bit closer in the second set than that suggests, Em 0/3 on BP, the Greek 2/3.
A toilet break has been taken. Need to flush away all the ... bad plays.
