Week 9 - WTA International ($227K) - Acapulco, Mexico - Hard

R32: Heather WATSON (GBR) 72 v. Beatríz HADDAD MAIA (BRA) 58 (=CH)

Haddad Maia went 2-0 against GBR in 2017; as well as the defeat of Laura at Wimbledon, she also beat Freya in the Aussie series.
The Brazilian hasn't played much in 2018, and on tour, has only beaten one player so far: Lizette Cabrera - she beat her in two different events, and Cabrera was a WC each time. She went 3-1 in Fed Cup, on clay.
Winner to play Kiki [2] (could be great, could be atrociously bad) or a Q

After watching Gabi last night.  Watching Heather play is a test of character - glad it's not tonight.

I assume this is the first time that Anna has been top seed in a WTA event?

No. I just had a quick shifty at the WTA site and their match history has Anna and Nicole as top seeds in the WTA International in Bastad, Sweden in July last year, losing in R1. Been second seed a few times.

Being from the WTA site, I naturally then cross-checked with the relevant thread on the forum and it's true.

That scoreline looks a bit odd.

That's because it's wrong

I'm expecting a decent week for Heather. She seems to be in a happy place and has played well there before.

Haddad is a bit of a Brit Basher it seems. Sure shes taken out 4 or 5 of our top players now in the last few years.
