Week 9 - ATP 500 - Abierto Mexicano TELCEL - Acapulco, Mexico (hard)

Just seen that cam lost to Thiem but pushed him v close, 7_5 in the third set. Anyone see any of it, sounds like he must have played well?

Im biased but Cam played superbly, matching DT
in almost every aspect. Thiem played and served
brilliantly when it mattered and didnt hold
back with some enormous strikes off both wings.
Cam enjoyed it and can take a lot from the match

You are allowed to be biased wink

Sounds like a terrific performance from Cam.

Sounds like a cracking match just a shame it was at a stupid hour! Onwards and upwards.

Great match, and Cam showing he is on for that top 30 place prediction.

BUT a word of warning. Outside of Clay, thiem is pretty useless and is top 30 at best.

Very good looking performance from Cam. Certainly at Davis Cup and here he has shown a very encouraging level.

Thanks though Vandy for the word of warning or I might have thrown too much money on Cam being top 30 this year,

I watched the entire match.... he played VERY well. I thought Thiem looked really good, his play really only dropped in the end of 2nd set. I hope Norrie can keep this intensity for EVERY match he plays and avoid playing down to his opponent. With the way he played in that match and in Davis Cup, there's no reason he shouldn't be near 50 by year end. He needs to really improve his 1st serve.... doesn't do near enough damage and he can go on stretches where he misses 6-7 in a row. If his forehand stays at the level it was last night, watch out.

Really awesome performance.

Jamie and Bruno showed their experience and won their first round match in straight sets. Well done, it felt like a tricky hurdle

Yes, was interesting to see how the young guys would do. Close first set but Jamie and Bruno's doubles experience and nous prevailed. Opponents more familiar with the doubles court next.

Jamie & Bruno are defending 500 title points from last year here.

L16: (3) Jamie Murray & Bruno Soares (BRA) CR 17 (8+9) beat Hyeon Chung & Denis Shapovalov (KOR/CAN) CR 775 (264+511) by 7-6(3) 6-2

QF: (3) Jamie Murray & Bruno Soares (BRA) CR 17 (8+9) vs Marcelo Demoliner & Sam Querrey (BRA/USA) CR 121 (47+74)

I think we forget it is still early days in terms of his transition to the main tour, working out where to improve snd then how takes a bit of time, as does working out how to beat lesser players without expending too much energy.

What is really exciting is that already he is making head way against DT who is one of the relatively few players in the top 40 who will be around for the peak years of Cams career.

Yep... and worth noting that Thiem rolled through Shapovalov pretty easily next round (Thiem did play really well against Shapo).

Presumably Mektic and Peya have been playing well here and beat the second seeds on the day but Marach and Pavic have been the clear pair of the year so far and Australian Open winners.

So that certainly looks the better option. Still no doubt need to play pretty well to get to the final.

Jamie and Bruno are playing well so far this week, a ATP 500 win would be a welcome boost ahead of the 2 Masters events
