Well done to Esther and Emma, for all the players I am sure there is a travel cost benefit/junior points and impact on rank/ education equation that is constantly being reworked.
Obviously it also about getting the right level of competition but for Emma this Grade 2 can still add upto 70 points which will propel her up the rankings quite significantly. Indeed 6 grade 2 wins with no doubles points gives you 600 points and a ranking of 22! That will get you into the main draw of most events.
A couple more wins and thus a SF here would take Emma to the top of the GB junior girls rankings, ending Ali Collins' brief stay. Hopefully it will again be more than a SF this week.
Overall, as Oakland says there are so many differing factors impacting on tournament schedule choices for young players though Emma has clearly felt able to significantly up her number of ITFs in recent times.
And I agree that more important than world or domestic rankings are the general level of competition and how that feeds in to the so important continued development of the young player. So yes, would be good to see her fit in some grade 1s but can certainly be good practical reasons for not travelling really widely to find them. And whatever, it looks like she will get her ranking further up to where it needs to be to compete at the very top levels when she wants to.
Good to see Harry looking comfortable at this level and continue to push on after beating Kennan who is on the threshold of the top 50 and on towards the top 100 himself.
