Let's see hopefully Cam will have learnt something from last week. If he is going to establish himself in the top 100 and beyond that's the key. Good luck to both.
That's unfortunate but whoever wins should have a chance of reaching main draw. Entry for that is strong BTW, 6 top 20, 2 top 10, all seeds in top 30. Sock v raonic in round one.
Repeat of QR2 at Australian Open, which Smith won 4&2. Not an ideal qualification line-up for Cam, given he's not a huge fan of facing fellow lefties. Suppose getting plenty of practise at this stage of his career is no bad thing. Fingers crossed he's got Smith figured out this time around.
I really wish Liam had stuck to Challengers for this part of the season, he hasn't much to defend and has been in good enough form lately to make a deep run or two and get his ranking up. The right mix of tournaments and he could be entering ATP events later in the year and being seeded for qualifying or even sneaking into the MD at some of the weaker events.
Liam has to work in the way in which James Ward did to make the top 100, agreed there is easy money in ATP qualifying but being a bit canny and looking at the likely points yield. The MD field here is stacked.
Cam I feel needs to try and maintain his rank playing exvlusively ATP events but should have that as a target over the next 18-24 months, this year hopefully by being pragmatic he will establish himself somewhere between 60-100 in the rankings. Interestingly I think he would have enjoyed a bit of time in South America polishing his newfound status as a dirtballer!
