R16: Emily APPLETON (GBR) 632 v. Ksenia PALKINA (KGZ) [6] 610 (CH 163, Mar. 2009)
Kyrgyzstan becomes the 42nd unique nation from which we have faced an opponent since the start of 2017 (excluding GB, 43 if you include us as an 'opponent' country)

Data I post, opinions I offer, 'facts' I assert, are almost certainly all stupidly wrong.
Emily was well enough to take court in, and complete, her doubles, and gain some cold comfort over Palkina.
Her doubles form at $15K is pretty impeccable
This is her seventh consecutive $15K doubles final, and her eighth final in her last nine $15K. The run also includes 5 titles.
Emily's remarkable form in doubles shows no sign of slowing down.
That is her 6th career doubles title, and all have come in the last 12 months at $15K.
The 3rd surface on which she has now won a title: 4 clay, 1 hard, 1 carpet
It's a nice coda for Quinn and Emily to win a title together, having lost their other $15K final together in Dublin last year.
Given how prolific she's been at $15K, i's a bit strange that she has barely made any impression at all when playing $25K doubles, but that will probably come.

This win (net 11 points) should establish her firmly inside the top 500 doubles. She has one more 1 pointer as a counter - after that her next lowest is 7.

Good to see.
The general step up in women competitors in 25Ks as against 15Ks is pretty marked though, probably in doubles too even if actual doubles rankings don't always show this.
I see that in all but one of her doubles opponents in the last year, other than the last occasion, at least one of that pair is currently top 250 in doubles. The last opposition, with Daneika Borthwick, against Grey & Nicholls in Loughborough, was only a MTB loss, and Sarah & Olivia are of course a good established pair.
So yes very good stuff in 15Ks and for now I'd say the general step-up and no super draw is the big difference in 25Ks.
