Week 8 - ITF ($25K) - Altenkirchen, Germany Carpet

What a great week for Harriet, to qualify and win the tournament. Going to be a good jump in her rankinging when those points go on.

What a fantastic result for Harriet. Has been rather quiet for a while now. Good to see her take
A big step up here.

Very exciting times for our crop between 190-300. All pushing each other on.

Wooop, great results from Harriet and Gabi :D fantastic for Harriet to win from qualies too, should boost her confidence no end.

I see she's heading to Japan for a run of 25ks soon; hopefully she'll pick up where she left off :)

Harriet becomes the 17th British woman to win a $25K or greater title since 2000. Of those 17, 9 are still active.

Wow fantastic for Harriet, and congratulations to her, our 2nd 25k winner of the day!

And yes, this will mean a very significant rise in Harriet's ranking. She currently has 157 points, so adding 51 from here - effectively 25% of her new total - will take her to 208 points and up to a new ranking of around 260. This will be comfortably a CH for her (existing CH 277), and will also take Harriet past Katie Swan in the rankings. Harriet has 5 pts coming off mid-March, but they will not dent her new ranking too much, even if she takes longer to replace them.

What a start to the year from our young players... May they continue to surprise and rise!

Yay, well done Harriet  biggrin

Heading for a CH of about 260 on Monday week ( taking out her CH 277 from June last year ).

On Monday week, 05/03, Gabi, Katy D and Katie S will also be hitting further CHs. Katie B will be hitting a CH this coming Monday 26/02 and will be on unchanged points on the following Monday so quite possible, depending on other movements, that she too might hit a further CH on 05/03.

Great work all round.

Harriets win also means that through the end of week 8, GB have won more matches than they have had entries on the YTD.
110 wins from 109 entries.

I am thinking the 25K results, finals, titles must be very impressive comparatively, especially comparative to the same stage last year since my memories are of quite a slow start to 2017.

It's misleading because a lot of our players, especially in the 2017 Australian swing, had to play qualifying each week, so they got a lot of wins, but to no great rankings boosting effect.
Also, the GB events this year were $25K, when last year they were $15K. So, we had a lot of losses in those early rounds.

We actually do considerably worse this year in terms of just numbers. Even just MD numbers.

Finals and titles are off the chart in 2018 though

I am working on getting the ranking points into the model somewhere but it's very complicated for my poor brain to comprehend, so progress is very slow (there's so many stupid little exceptions to rules - winless byes, P5 commitments, mandatory azero scores, RETs and w/o etc etc), and also how a metric for # of matches that were won in a week that accrued a rankings point (with scaling for that by volume of points won).
If I'd actually managerd to get that done in the last 3 months, those would also be off the chart this year in $25K.

What a week! For a bit of fun, I've opened a poll about who the Player of the Month is for GB Tennis! Would love for you to vote and have your say :) (If there's a more appropriate place to post this let me know :))

Why you have put he Skupskis in there? Player of the month, Id say that cheapens the poll throwing doubles players in there particularly when you consider how well Gaby and Harriet have done. Harriets wins in particularly playing qualies beating former top 100 players and seeds. Mixed in with the doubles lottery 2 players winning 3 or 4 serve and volley matches.

Indeed. Quite apart from the fact that it is a poll of what people think. Whatever Nick thinks himself he is probably aware that many folk rate doubles rather more highly than yourself and given the Skupskis' ATP 250 title, following on from a Challenger title, he is no doubt interested in getting a true reflection of what the voters think rather than put restrictions on what form of the game is included.
