What a shame for Alicia and Beth to go over there and draw each other in the first round .....

So disappointing. The odds on that draw are pretty slim. It's a 48 draw with 16 seeds, so 32 places to be drawn. The odds are around 1 in 30 of them being drawn together. And neither of them played last week.

QR1: Sarah Beth GREY (GBR) 592 defeated Alicia BARNETT (GBR) 675 3-6 6-2 6-2

QR2: Harriet DART (GBR) [q2] 309 v. Karen BARRITZA (DEN) 548 (CH 396 Apr. 2017)
Barritza Brit-blitzer: We were 1-3 against the Dane in 2017. Only Katie Swan, in Shrewsbury Q managed a win; Alicia, Anna Pop & Summer lost to her.
We're already 0-2 against her in 2018; Gillan & Daley already on the wrong end of the scoreline.
Strike a blow Harriet!

QR2: Sarah Beth GREY (GBR) 592 v. Sofia SHAPATAVA (GEO) [q7] 342 (CH 186, Sep. 2014)
Brits 0-1 against the Georgian in 2017; Olivia Nicholls lost in Clermont-Ferrand

Harriet stops the Brit-basher, and wins through to the FQR 6-4 6-1
Plays Amanmuradova for a MD place.

Edit: there are 3 Q rounds, so my declaration that Harriet was already in MD was premature

Identical scorelines: Cracking win from Beth to join Harriet in the FQR

QR2: Harriet DART (GBR) [q2] 309 defeated Karen BARRITZA (DEN) 548 6-4 6-1
QR2: Sarah Beth GREY (GBR) 592 defeated Sofia SHAPATAVA (GEO) [q7] 342 6-4 6-1

FQR: Harriet DART (GBR) [q2] 309 v. Akgul AMANMURADOVA (UZB) [q15] 382 (CH 50, May 2008)
33 year old Amanmuradova is still the tallest listed current female tennis player at 193cm (6' 4''). Prior to this week, she has only one tour singles win since September (a few more in Fed Cup).

FQR: Sarah Beth GREY (GBR) 592 v. Marie BENOIT (BEL) [q11] 358 (CH 272, Feb. 2016)

Edit: Put Harriets H2H against Benoit. Sarah Beth has no H2H with Benoit.

That's a good win from Beth.
Pity that the ITF scores aren't working during qualifying - woulld be nice to see some stats.

You have to win 3 matches for a point here. I hope they change this when the tours split next year.

Staunched the flow a bit, and got back on level terms. Is the pendulum swinging back Harriet's way?
6-0 3-6 3-2*

Bit of a blip in the second set, but a decent final set 6-2
