If it's any form guide, Vasic was in the team that EWS & Ana double bagelled in this weeks opening round of the doubles.

Emily's doubles partner for the week is once again Pribylova, and they won through the R16 today, in to the QF, 6-3 7-6(6)

A surprisingly heavy defeat for Emily, 62 62.

Means she doesn't defend any of her points from last year's fantastic run, sadly.

Slightly surprised by that one as she's actually had a couple of good wins on the trip, just not been able to string them together.

This is bad news from Emily. From her blogs she had trained extensively prior to arriving here and was clearly determined to hit the ground running and at least defend her points... instead now her singles ranking is going to slump, and whilst her doubles is continuing to be successful, at this level she is neither gaining much earnings or points for her results here. Emily singles ranking is going to fall to WR 578 next week and the following week even further as her last year's win comes off to around WR 645-650. This is not the start of the year Emily was looking for and leaves her with a real dilemma. Her singles ranking is now going to restrict her to 15k tournaments, whilst her doubles ranking to improve requires her to play at 25k level plus. She has some choices to make now about her schedule for the remainder of this year.

Yes, pity.

I'd be extremely reluctant to suggest what Emily should do. She very much travels her own path and I reckon very much knows her own mind. But yes that mind does seem to have decisions to make such as does she want to have an extended career as a doubles specialist and is it getting to the time to really commit to that.

Since her first doubles title of the year her doubles has ticked along OK but it's not earning her too many extra pennies or moving her in the rankings and now already with a spare 12 pointer before this week it would be the end of July before any further 15K doubles success could help her rankings total at all.

All the best to her whatever ...

Emily & Anna have given a w/o in their doubles QF
Anna played singles earlier and progressed to the SF.

Yes, that's a tough one for Em to have to take cry
