Great game from Gabi to break again and claim a thoroughly deserved first set.
Returns right to Georges' feete, she didn't want to, or could not, move her feet, and swung static, the ball hitting the net no more than mid height, three times.
The final point had Gabi on the run to her left and crafting a cracking DTL winner into the corner with a compact stroke, again very much in the Svitolina fashion.
Great stuff. 6-2

Gabi's serve pattern variation has been excellent, both AD & Deuce side.
On return, if the ball rises up on the BH she struggles to control that shot, and it seems oto break down more often than not.
In Georges head, there is an Anglo-Australian conspiracy afoot to deny her points by ignoring the lines.

And Georges has an MTO - her shoulders and upper spine seeming to be worked on.

2-1* 30-30* Gabi set up the point beautifully, with a BH DTL, and had a drive volley into completely open court to set up a BP, and fluffed it into the net.
But, Georges footwork and service action is now so lazy (or, perhaps, inhibited, being kind), that a BP comes anyway at AD... a rally back-and-forth, and Georges ends it with a good winner .

The wind suddenly really picks up. Moving the court furniture and whistling throuhg the microphones.

Gabi stays in a point with a couple of excellent squatted Kerber defenses, to return us to deuce, but again misses an easy put away to set up a BP, and Georges holds.

Consecutive DF, as the wind howls, have Gabi in trouble for the first time in some while, *15-40
Brave on the first. threading a winner DTL on the BH side.
But then, Georges targets that weakness on the high BH side, and Gabi errs, and is broken.

The fortunes seem to have shifted a little bit with the wind

Faulous defense from Gabi, side-to-side-to side, wins her a point she had no right to even be in. 15-0*
Then, a weak FH error squanders the work, 15-15*
A second cheap FH malfunction, long, compounds the effect 15-30*
Nice cross court finish to a good point, 30-30*
Another example of setting up the point and not playing the winner - attempting too extravagant an inside out FH, and netting 30-40*
And then, completing that same inside out FH correctly! Deuce
Wild BH error from Georges, BP
Good pressure gets Georges on the move immediately, and sustained pressure tells.
Good break to snap the little run and the rising confidence of the frenchwoman.

Georges holds to love; Gabi unable to exert pressure on any of the points.

A sudden rash of UE has Gabi defending BP. Saved, with one stretch BH mid-point digging her out of real trouble and leading to a breakdown in the Geirges FH.

Good rally, Gabi wins out after the point ebbed and flowed both ways.
Georges pressures and puts away, Deuce
Georges plays a fine winner painting the line on the FH - BP
Kick serve, Georges balloons the return long, Deuce
There's the off-FH put away again.

Good hold. Georges is playing a lot better now.

Aggressive return forces an error, 15-0*
Didn't see it 30-0*
Good defense forced the Frenchwoman to play three extra shots, but she held her nerve 30-15*

Good point from Georges saves the first.
Called a DF - looked harsh. Georges throws her racquet and sarcastically applauds the umpire.
A sour finish.
