Attritional stuff.
12 point Hozumi service hold followed by a 24 point Gabi service loss!
40 minutes in, 2-3*

Gabi had enough of all that hanging around after that, went on a blitz and tore through the remaining 4 games of the set
6-3

Gabi wins 6-3 6-3

Excellent news again. Two more seeds in the quarter final, but both winnable, then they would meet in the semis.

GB 8 Japan 0 ( 16 sets to 0 ) over the last 2 weeks in Perth, and generally very capable Japanese opposition at that.

These two are going from strength to strength - really pleased to see these results, especially since last year was a bit of a struggle.

And there ARE a lot of Japanese in Perth this week - I make it 6 in the main draw, plus 4 qualifiers out of 11 - and there were slightly more last week.
Only Hibi remains this week, and she's in the other half of the draw.

L16: Gabriella Taylor WR 240 (=CH) beat (1) Eri Hozumi (JPN) WR 182 (CH 144 in October 2014) 6-3 6-3

L16: Katy Dunne WR 284 (CH 258 in September 2017) beat Ayano Shimizu (JPN) WR 245 (CH 234 in July 2017) 6-4 7-5

QF: Gabriella Taylor WR 240 (=CH) vs (6) Tereza Mrdeza (CRO) WR 220 (CH 150 in October 2015)

QF: Katy Dunne WR 284 (CH 258 last September) vs (5) Jaqueline Adina Cristian (ROU) WR 211 (CH 210 earlier this month), age 19, JCH 30

Winners to meet in the SF.

Gabi and Katy continue to push up their CHs with Katy looking as if she will enter the top 250 for the first time if she wins her QF match on top of last week's final.

Yes they are, but not just these two - also Katie B, Harriet and Katie S all having excellent wins in 25Ks this week.  I guess they'll all hoping to push their rankings high enough to get wild cards for Wimbie, or at least for Roehampton?  All very encouraging I think, and just a shame Laura had to withdraw and isn't sharing this.

Yes, I agree about the others doing well - it's just they aren't in Perth wink

I will be very surprised if they don't get wild cards at least into qualifying for Wimbledon, and if they continue like this they might well make it anyway !

The 25K girls are the story in town just now ( well in towns and countries in various parts of the world ), to me more than balancing Jo's fall off in results.

Our six GB ranked 4 to 9 ( Katie B through to Harriet ) are drawing well clear of the group from GB #10 on, and re the Wimbledon sub plot must all be in prime position for some form of WCs with Jo not needing one, nor hopefully Heather. Katie B and Gabi are leading the chase not to even need a qualifying one, and for now looking the leading MD WC contendors, probably still rightly or wrongly with Laura. With Harriet's couple of wins in Germany, all will now be in the top 300, with Katie B in the top 200. I think the real question will turn out to be how many of them will end up getting MD WCs.

Wimbledon is still 4+ months away. Anyone for the top 150 first?
