Interesting. Fully deserved, but you'd assume that Gabi would be an absolute cert for a Wimbledon wildcard now. Good to see that her Aussie injury mustn't have been too bad. Will be interesting to see what her plans are after this.
I've only just picked up on this but, yes, AceV, the Wimbly main draw wildcard now seems in the bag. Which is great. (Although why wouldn't it be....)
Does this confirm that Laura Robson's injury is worse than expected/not cleared up yet? (Her Fed Cup place always seems a given, whatever goes on around).
Anyway, very pleased for Gabi and good luck to our team.
I suspect that Laura may well have recovered, but with her lack of match practice in the last few weeks couldn't be regarded as cover for Jo and Hev although she could play the doubles.
Interesting that winning this match could give us a chance of winning the title next year.

"The ITF remains committed to enhancing the Fed Cup competition," president David Haggerty said in a statement to BBC Sport.
"Our immediate priority is to increase the size of the World Group to 16 nations in 2019, played over the traditional three weeks and including a Fed Cup Final Four event. This would allow twice as many nations to challenge for the trophy each year, and better movement between the World Group and zone group events.
'The last time Great Britain were in the elite group of the Fed Cup one of the current team was not even born, two were toddlers and one was aged four.'
I will be going to watch the fed cup match in Miki Japan on Saturday, and possibly on Sunday too. I've never been to a Fed Cup/Davis cup type event, but they look pretty wild on the tv ? Any advice ? Is it the kind of event you can take a packed lunch to ? Will we be let in if we don't have a vuvuzela (spelling ?) How can I get autographs if we are at the back ? Anything we should definitely take ?
Unpatriotic but I think Japan will win. I will be very happy if we do though but based on Jo and Heather's form in general, I can only see Japan as being victors.
Nara looks like the weak link. Hopefully two singles wins and then surely Jo and Hev in a decider.
I don't necessarily think they would be a shoe in to play together if the score was 2-2. It might depend how the 2-2 happened. Perhaps if both had won one match and lost together to Naomi Osaka, they might play... but not guaranteed. And if Heather had lost both her matches, then I think there's a good chance that someone else might play in the crucial doubles.
Annie is certainly going to keep her options for Sunday very much live for the time being.
