I've been impressed how the 3-2 victory to Japan vote has been noticeably creeping up a bit since the contest. A few inspired late entries. It will make us look quite good predictors
the standard of players was decent but the event eventually went away from this format due to general lack of interest...
ITF need to be careful what they wish for
As I posted towards the beginning of this thread, it looks like they are moving to a 16 team World Group but with a "final four" event at a neutral venue.

I have since realised you can do a closing date for the poll, so I will keep us honest next time.

I went to the Fed Cup in 1991 at Nottingham. Some of the best players of the day were there such as Sanchez, Martinez and Capriati. As for the top 16 World Group it is academic for GB. For us its like trying to find the Holy Grail.
yes it was a good time. A great atmosphere, wonderful tennis facility in a lovely park, free parking and I could even get a kebab from a van in the open space behind the venue, and I haven't seen a kebab in years :) I went over and chatted to a couple of the BATS who had travelled over specially for the game. Yes I'm sure they would agree they are completely bats :)
Generally I think deep analysis of Anne K's captaincy based on this result alone is not very productive. She could easily have been the heroine (PC ?? ) with just a couple of points going the other way. From my experience of coaching (baseball and football) though, it is not very motivating to your team to only rely on your star players and is not really the best in the long term. Obviously this match was the big one, and no one can blame Anne for having a shorter term view in this case.
I'm from Nottingham, but been in Japan long enough to be able to tell Kato Senshu to try hard (but not too hard :) but she obviously didnt listen to a word I said ;)

Glad to hear you enjoyed the event Lee, and thanks for your account, as seeming the only person on the forum who attended the event. I think you didn't get more advice beforehand because not too many people had been to tournaments in Japan before, never mind the Fed Cup! And even here I suspect your Japanese is sufficient to confuse most people, though have worked out that 'Kato Senshu', is referring to Miyu Kato and 'Senshu' is an honorific for 'player'!

Hi, yes you are exactly right "senshu" is a respectful title, I also mistakenly called her Mayu Kato instead of Miyu Kato before as well to be even more confusing - sorry. Yes if anyone needs any advice on anything Japan, please feel free to ask.
