Week 7 - ITF ($25K) - Perth, Australia Hard

Yes, we're taking over, down under

As Howard notes, none of our trio will play each other, or indeed another seed.

Katy has Kim Birrell (Q) WR355 - been out with injury a lot, otherwise would be much higher ranked.
Laura has Minokoshi WR289, who came through a section where the seed retired.
[EDIT: incorrect see below] Gabi gets WC Maddison Inglis WR778, whose ranking is comprised of only 6 months of results, as she missed Mar-Sep last year. She easily dispatched WR278, Savinykh in R16.

Reasons for cautious optimism for furtrher progress

Gee, you folk, imagine being awake at this time following it all unfolding

And well worth it. Live scores going well is a great watch  biggrin

I got nervous to actually watch Laura when I saw the DFs had started so just followed the scores ( though 4 aces and no DFS in set 1 ! ). Sounds as if most else was in pretty decent nick.

Gabi 12 wins ( and 16 sets ) in a row to date and Katy demolishes the top seed.

Fine work all !

I think Katy has another seed next - ITF implies 6th seed Myrtille Georges defeated Birrell unless you know differently from another source.

No. As, ever, you are right

I have edited that post with a 'fake news' warning. Sorry.

Gabi's year-straddling dozen consecutive wins is a better streak than any Brit managed in 2017. The best mark last year was by Katie Swan, who won 10 in a row during her consecutive $15K titles in weeks 9-10 (she then lost in QR1 of Miami)

What a great set of results - I really wasn't expecting three wins, let alone in straight sets.

L16: Katy Dunne WR 280 (CH 258 in September 2017) beat (1) Eri Hozumi (JPN) WR 181 (CH 144 in November 2016) 6-4 6-1

L16: Laura Robson WR 238 (CH 27 in July 2013) beat (8) Jia-Jing Lu (CHN) WR 231 (CH 198 in April 2016) 6-3 7-6(0)

L16: Gabriella Taylor WR 277 (=CH) beat (3) Mayo Hibi (JPN) WR 196 (CH 166 in July 2016) 7-6(2) 6-2

QF: Katy Dunne WR 280 (CH 258 in September 2017) vs (6) Myrtille Georges (FRA) WR 225 (CH 168 in July 2016)

QF: Laura Robson WR 238 (CH 27 in July 2013) vs Mai Minokoshi (JPN) WR 289 (=CH)

QF: Gabriella Taylor WR 277 (=CH) vs (WC) Maddison Inglis (AUS) WR 778 (CH 500 in October 2016)

There are no relevant H2Hs.

Katy & Laura are in the top half. The other QF in Gabi's half features the #2 seed, one of only 2 seeds remaining thanks largely to the British R2 exploits.

They are all playing lower ranked opponents in the QF than in R2. If they play with confidence, they can all go further. Good few weeks in Australia for the girls playing these $25k events

Gabi's run ends at twelve.
Didn't really have anything today; everything just a little off, lost patience and kept missing. Inglis was quite good.
Can't win them all.
3-6 1-6
