Maia's is a bit tricky as the woman used to be WR 57 (in 2015).
Tara's seed is not in great form, though, so that's promising.
Yes, why not be optimistic ?
I think Emily App has the shortest straw, v Krajicek CH30, who seems to win outright more than her fair share of the ITFs singles tournaments that she enters.
Harriet should be favourite v Francati, otherwise I think all of our players should be outsiders; but every single one should have a chance.
GB representation in every section means that all-GB QFs would theoretically be possible.
12 of the GB top 21 will be in ITF R1 singles action on Wednesday. 8 here, the 3 in Aus and EWS in Egypt, so 11 indeed in 25K action and looking to move onto 5 points Unfortunately due to one of the all GB clashes only 11 of the 12 can be winners
Plus 3 more are doing whatever they are doing at the Fed Cup. All a bit quiet on that front.
That just leaves 6. Beth knocked out here, but is playing doubles on Wednesday. Naomi nothing really available to her this week, Katie S doing her clay training block, Mandy presumably still recuperating after her wrist surgery. Plus Sam ( entered but withdrew from some tournaments including here ) and Fran?
Smitcova is showing her pedigree. Her return of serve has been fantastic today, with Maia only having won 36% of her first serves in the match and losing 6/7 BPs to render her 4/5 BPs inconsequential. Maia about to lose first round this week 3-6 4-6
Emily A was also 5-4* up in the first set, but then lost the last 3 games 5-7, and is now a crucial break down in the second set, the only break so far of the set 3-4*
