Take a well earned round of applause Ms. Miller! 6-4 6-3

It would be fabulous if Nell arrived at Texas Tech with a healthy WTA ranking, still the spring and summer to work on it!

The match clock hits three hours... Ella is one game away... Ula must hold...
6-4 3-6 5-4*

Yay  biggrin

At 0-40* I was ready to say not a sniff that game but Ella just then decided to win 5 points in a row to win the match

Just Nell or Ella now can give us a men or women GB vs Pesky win in Loughborough today. Generally though hugely outranked, particularly our women, but kind of hoped for at least one win. Huge asks for these two though.

C'mon girls.

Edit: Oh, missed young Ben Jones who is in danger of winning the opening set of his R1 match against the #3 seed.

Huge asks answered

And even my forgotten man got rather close.

Fantastic!
It feels like beating Ula Radwanska should give you a better CH scalp thand just WR517, but it's still a new best for Ella so not to complain

Considerably better than expected today.

Nell did score two ranking points as a 15 yo in 2015.

One was by winning QR1 at the Eastbourne 50K and the other from a MD WC to the Woking 25K but not the 3 counters for a ranking position. Her impression back then was one reason I was wondering in the British tour thread what she had been up to between then and her recent British tour exploits.

This though yes is giving her one point now and her first point since these 2015 ones.

Very pleased for Alicia. She's had some good wins recently. Nice to see some points to back it up.

I imagine both her and Beth are aiming to crack the top-500 and make Wimbly qualis (one way or another), at the very minimum this year. Top 400 is probably their main aim for the year. Beth presumably will have doubles aims too. (We need a few of our girls ranked about 300 to make it up to about 200 by June so that automatic wildcards can then be moved down to the next row). A lot of respect for both players - good luck to them.

Absolutely. I'd like to see Beth, Alicia, Eden winning a couple of 15ks each this year, and then trying to get a few qfs and sfs in 25ks when they step up.

Nice to see some wildcard girls in the doubles draw too - young Danielle Daley is there, and Soumeya, plus Danieka, Louise Holtum, Anna P etc. etc. As well as the more obvious lot, of course.

There's an order of play for Weds here...

...though no drawsheet yet.

Confirms the singles MDWC as expected though. And also Tara and Harriet are there, as well as today's winners

Well, although two matches are all GB affairs (which is not too surprising, given there's 10 GB players there), the British women have done a fine job of avoiding the main seeds.

Yes, a remarkably good set of draws, with only Tara meeting a seed, and she's more than capable of blasting past a seed.
Also managed to get draws against two qualifiers in the mix too.
2 guaranteed (Eden/Ella; Jodie/Freya), but I will take a bullish 6 to progress.

Indeed 4 have drawn qualifiers, counting Eden and Freya's all GB clashes. 3 of our 4 WCs have drawn qualifiers.

Given that there are 8 seeds and 8 qualifiers in the 32 that is a fine piece of work.
