Three fantastic results to wake up to.

Two excellent results !

Bravo Gabi - a top 200 player, third seed, with the home support - it doesn't get much better.
And Laura's win is just what she needed - Jessika is on the way up, only 21, well thought of by the fed. - a good win in two.

And keep on truckin' in the doubles too.

Very good.

Gabi well established in $25K now, and punching up. Still have her as the next, if any, to get close to top 100 and possibly even get in (Laura would be a re-entry, so I'm not counting that - we know she has that ability, somewhere)
Neither should feel the need to end their runs quite yet!

Weird random stat, given how many Russians play, Laura's match will be the first GB Women's match against a Russian this year, we somehow managed to avoid them for 133 other matches.
By comparison, we've played other leading nations this many times:
AUS 6
BEL 4
FRA 13
GER 6
ITA 6
JPN 4
ROU 4
USA 17

Just seen that Patty Schnyder is top seed here, is this a one off or some sort of coming out of retirement return?

Re Laura and Gabi - I notice live ranks doesnt show the estimated ranking change from this weeks singles and doubles efforts - based on reaching the QF round in singles and final in doubles, where would laura and Gabi expect to rise to, if at all?

Fire your messenger! She's been back since July 2015, and has played regularly ever since.

Oh gosh! I have certainly missed that but to be frank dont really follow the womens game at the below main tour levels...what level has she been playing at Blob? If you tell me main WTA Tour then I am seriously out of date

$25K & under don't go on for an extra week, so the points area added on the 19th.
As there are so many other factors, very very roughly Laura ~WR225; Gabi ~ WR270

Admirably, she started at the very bottom in the old $10K's, and has earned her way through all over again.
Most of her time has been at $25K level and whenever available, higher ITF's, getting progressively better, lots more $60-80K.

SHe did accept a MD WC for the Swiss WTA event in Gstaad last year, and justified it by winning a round. She played USO Q last year, on merit.

Schnyder turns 40 this year.

Well kudos to her - yes, I just looked up her wiki page and see she has won a few lower level ITF events over the past few seasons as you say. Ihad no idea!!

And, as I read, poor Patty is only doing it because she was absolutely broke after being swindled.

So, yes, kudos to her.

Laura's match is on youtube now...power and placement of groundstrokes is looking good, much more assertive than last week, and when Laura landed a first serve Ponchet didn't have much chance. Was really struggling with serve in the first set tho, which made it a bit harder than needed. Loads of positives tho :)

I'll tentatively get on board when >80% of matches over a 3 month period have any semblance of similar indications. There's been a lot of transitory and false impressions.

 I co-sign this

(but 3-4 months would be just in time for grass)

Meh, a match well played deserves credit, regardless of any broader trend :)
