Gabi Taylor is now comfortably past Katy D in the GB #6 position. She already will be at the end of this week before this weeks points are added. Katy also has 15 pts coming off next week for reaching the QF of this tournament last year. Gabi has no points coming off until mid-March.
Well done Gabi for turning that second set around. And good to see Laura progressing in both singles and doubles even if due to Lim's retirement.
Katy - I'm actually not surprised she lost. Again, her serving figures weren't very good, so lost 6 breaks of serve, but her returning game wasn't too bad.
Second year in a row Katy goes down under and starts her year with a fizzle
Things did not improve for her, with Gabi the doubles also ended.
Progress for 2/3 in singles is much better than last week, but this is a lower level.
Laura doubles up in luck, as the Lim RET meant a w/o in the doubles, too
QF: Robson/Savinykh (GBR/RUS) [1] 247 defeated Lim/Ponchet (FRA/FRA) 997 w/o
QF: Dunne/G. Taylor (GBR/GBR) 804 lost to Cristian/Mrdeza (ROU/CRO) [3] 459 3-6 6-7(3)
Katys serve has never been her strongest asset but since winning the first set in singles last week shes barely held it... Im a big fan of Katy (always seems to give 100%) but Im not sure how much shes progressed since joining Gosling. Ive only seen a handful of her matches over the last couple of years so Im not really in a position to judge.
A really powerful, impressive performance from Gabi here against the #3 seed, spoilt a bit as she serves for the match and suffers her first break. 6-4 5-2*
Laura also continuing to do well, 6-3 *4-3

Watched Gabi on the livefeed - played very well. Maybe a bit too aggresive - going for shots that weren't really there.
Taking out the WR190, 90 places higher than her, quite so easily is really impressive. Her serving stats are great too. And this is her first tournament of the year too, though continues the form of her last in 2017 in India.
