I can't decide if the grunts from the men on the next court have upset a nearby dog, or there are yelps coming from the other women's match. It's a bit noisy out there.

Super aggressive on seond return, she's taking the ball about midway between the baseline and the back of the service box.

6 games in a row to close ou the match - the Aussie was rather beating herself.
Some good thing from Gabi, nice point construction, and echoes of the Kerber 1-2, out wide, and then squat on the baseline to drive the ball the other way and open up the court; good movement.
Tougher assignments await.

Laura won 5-2 ret and is due to be playing Lim in the doubles so could be in for an easy day.

Not quite sure what has happened but Lim has retired at 2-5 down so Laura goes through. After a tentative start I thought Laura was playing quite positively but who knows how much of that was down to her opponent being injured/unwell.

Well done Gabi on also getting through quite comfortably - can Katy now turn her match around to make it a hattrick
