Some of you knew my husband had been ill and that was how come I was up watching tennis in the small hours.   I had many kind   comments of support which I truly appreciated.  As we've all been around some few years here I wanted to share with you that he passed away just over a week ago, 18th January. He was here at home with me and went peacefully.   He'd had health issues for years, but,  apparently unrelated, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer just before Christmas.  Neither our Doctor or us had seen that coming and  swept him away within 5 weeks from diagnosis.   He always supported my interest in Tennis and   sometimes came with me to events.  Last year one of his customers (he restored old fountain pens) gave him some Wimbledon  tickets which turned out to be a hugely memorable occasion for us.   He would have enjoyed seeing Kyle reach the Semi's, but unfortunately didn't quite make it to follow that event.  Just for our  reference he was always referred to as 'the pale boy', to distinguish him from others, and Trevor always knew who I meant  and shared my enthusiasm when he did well.

Oh Julia. I am so sorry. I really have no words at all right now other than to say that my thoughts are with you. My sincerest and deepest condolences. Cancer is such a terrible disease.

My deepest condolences. Thank you for sharing the news; and the history.
If the telling is not too upsetting, at some future point in time, I would love to hear about restoring old fountain pens, which sounds like beautiful, skilled, specialised and fascinating work - a chance to share a legacy, as you choose.

Julia I am very sorry for your loss, a very tough couple of months for you and your family. It was a great shame your husband didn't get an opportunity to enjoy the success of the pale boy but hopefully it was a pleasant distraction for you. May he rest in peace.

I share your husbands love of and am an avid user of fountain pens (all Lamy I am afraid) not the type you would repair. It is a major indulgence in that I treat them like bic birds and have about 4 on the go.

Very sorry to hear of your loss and my thoughts and prayers are with you.

My wife bought herself a new fountain pen at a Christmas market and spent along time talking to the seller who had a very deep knowledge on the subject, so I am sure she would have loved to talk to your husband.

Hope you have all the support you need and will be able to remember all the good times you shared together.

I'm so sorry to read about your loss and touched that you felt able to share your sad news here and get some understanding and support.

While you're lucky to have had what sounds like a very kind and supportive relationship and Trevor must have been very lucky to have got to spend his life with you too, in some ways that must make the loss even harder to bear, and my thoughts are with you.

If at some point you feel up to going to tennis events again and would like someone to talk to while you're there who's as interested in tennis as you are and will also have at least an inkling of what you've been going through, please don't hesitate to post on here to ask whether anyone else is going and would like to meet up. Forumites I've met have been at least as great and easy to talk to as they come across on here. I'd definitely say yes if I was able to go and I'm sure other people here would too.

I am really really touched by the depth of the messages I have received here. Thank you everybody so much. It really does help 'cos you guys seem like old friends. I hadn't noticed it was my 5,000'th post (far too much rubbish written) but yes, as you say Paul, that seems significant. And thanks Steven also for suggesting about meeting up, with yourself or other forumites. Great idea, Birmingham, Nottingham are my locals, and I can dream that one of Trevor's customer's might give me a Wimbledon ticket again !! Amazing that several people have interest in fountain pens, perhaps there is statistical signficance in that
