Perhaps it was a mistake for Maia to win the first set.

It step up for Maia this week, at least she has a good look at Paula's A game in sets 2 and 3, the next step up is dealing with it. Great week

Very well done again Ms. Lumsden
Looking at the pictures Scottish Tennis have posted, Maia really seems to have done some hard extra conditioning work over the winter.

Another come-from-behind win. Maia now has two on her own, and so too do each of Tara and Johanna.

Through the end of this week (week 5) in 2017, we had just two wins after our player lost the first set (which was 2-97 2.02% of such matches by that date in 2017)
In 2018, we already have 11 total wins coming from behind. (11-32 25.58%)

In 2017, it took us until week 8 to reach 11 such wins - that acceleration was due mostly to a lot of GB events in that period wins in QR1 of those.

On the filpside, our opposition continue to outpace us in this regard. They win 26.32% of matches where the GB player wins the first set in 2018 matches: GB are 28-10 in such instances.
This is considerably worse than at the same point in 2017, where the figures were GB 86-10 (Opponents won 10.42% of matches where GB won the first set)

Belatedly looking at this more closely.

As well as GB players' significant improvement in the first 5 weeks in coming back to win from a set down, it struck me looking at more general GB results that generally this year in GB matches ( for GB or non GB player ) there has been significantly more wins in 3 sets by the player that wins the second set as against the first set winner.

I was surprised last year that you had figures showing more often the first set winner was the one that won the third, which I think I mentioned seemed counter intuitive to me as regards momentum. And of course this in turn kept the number of comeback wins down.

Anyway, early days but very good in that so many matches British players are not only coming back to win a second set but finishing the job off, and that they are at least this year pretty close in come back wins to their opposition.

Excuse the bump. Glasgow is only a couple of hours away from me so I'm thinking of heading up for the SF and F in 2019 - did anyone go last year? Is there much capacity or does it not really cater for the fan and not really meant as a spectator event?

There will be no issues, it's a big venue.

Wasn't there last year but been a couple of recent years, and yes, there is normally a temporary stand alongside the designated main court for the week with other courts beyond so that's sorted for viewing.

And, again if as normal for the ITFs, you can wander along the raised walkway that divides the two halves of courts and although not that much space there can normally relatively easily watch matches from the ends. That's more for earlier in the week with plenty of action going on on all the courts.

Thanks, think I'll go in that case, maybe even the Friday as well to catch the QFs. It was a really strong field last year with the only GB representation being the 4 WCs. You had the likes of Zidansek, Rus, plus Badosa-Gibert and Smitkova weren't event seeds. It'll be interesting to see what representation GB have this time - will Gabi and Katy be back playing in Oz? Harriet showed up for Loughborough last year but not Glasgow, probably end up just being the 4 WCs again and hopefully there will be another lengthy run a la Maia. I'll definitely go back to Ilkley next year as that was a thoroughly enjoyable weekend.

I'll not bump this anymore as it'll come across pretty confusing and random. smile

I've gone as well for the last 4 years - great venue, if slightly cold.
