Week 5 - Challenger (€43,000) - Quimper, France (indoor hard)

QR1: Ed Corrie WR 357 (CH 215 in October 2014) vs Grégoire Barrère (FRA) WR 623 (CH 187 in July 2016)

Winner to play (q4) Constant Lestienne (FRA) WR 316. The other seed in the qualifying bracket, q8, is WR 356, ie just one place ahead of Ed.

It seems that Barrère just had a pretty awful 2017 rather than was out for any extended period. He has started 2017 with 10 successive wins from two French futures titles.

L32:  (4) Dustin Brown (GER) WR 129 (CH = 64 in October 2016) vs  (ALT) Jay Clarke WR 263 (CH = 219 last month)

The top seed next week is the young Greek, Stefanos Tsitsipas, who's in on a wild card.  Youzhny has to be content with second.

Ed won the first set without facing a break point and then.......did he crumble or did Barrere become Federer????

Some tennis musical chairs in the doubles:

L16:  (1) Ken Skupski & Neal Skupski CR 152 (87+65) vs Ivan Sabanov & Matej Sabanov (CRO/CRO) CR 405 (195+210)
L16:  Scott Clayton & David Pel (NED) CR 295 (150+145) vs (WC) Elliot Benchetrit & Constant Lestienne (FRA/FRA) CR 1057 (685+372)

The winners of those two matches will play one another in the quarter-final.

L16:  (3) Romain Arneodo & Hugo Nys (MON/FRA) CR 183 (103+80) vs Andreas Mies (GER) & Jonny O'Mara CR 298 (132+166)

Jonny and Scott not playing together ? Clearly not a ranking issue as the Sabanov brothers are in the tournament with a combined ranking of over 400.

As a side note, it has been pointed out on Twitter that there are in fact FOUR sets of brothers teaming up in this tournament. Skupskis, Sabanovs, Tsitsipases and Draganjas.

I see Barrère's now taken out Lestienne in three...

Dustin's generally been pretty good to us Brits, think this will be a tough one for Jay though....

Jay has lost the first set 6-4

In better news the Skupskis win 6-1, 6-3

I don't think Dustin is feeling very forgiving towards us Brits, he is serving for the match.

Not a bad effort by the looks of things, he's still very much a newbie at this level.

He won't have come across many players like Dustin Brown before, at any level.  All part of the learning curve.
