If they were going to do it, youd think it would be quite easy to at least run down the top 100 and ask each player who their current coach is!

Well it is the WTA you know !

Posts from ROSAMUND, end-Jan 2021:

"In the absence of head coach Dimitri Zavialoff, Dan Smethurst is with Jo in Melbourne."

"Alex Ward is Heather's coach in Melbourne 2021."

"Andy Bettles well featured in Simon Briggs Sunday Telegraph article on British coaches who are blazing a trail in women's tennis. He's with Elina Svitolina in Melbourne. He's a successful coach along with Tom Hill with Maria Sakkari. The comment is made that the pair have reached a level where they now have enough stature to walk into another job."

They say the average life of a  tennis coach is about 18 months so Andy with Elina for 2.5 years is doing pretty well. Tom is  over the 18 months with Maria  Sakkari as he first registered with  me  in  May 2019 when she beat Jo in the Rabat final.

As I was looking up James Markiewicz (because of the TC Alfeld promotion match scandal story - European league thread), I thought I'd just note here that he's currently coach for Privilege tennis. Which seems quite a swanky hotel and private client coaching service provider company.

James M played quite a lot of ITF matches, in Germany and the UK. And team tennis. And so was mentioned on this forum in quite a lot of threads, mainly back in 2018 and so.

I see Sears and Kontaveit have parted ways after 3 years. I used to like listening to Sears during their on court coaching sessions, I actually really miss that element of the women's game full stop (on the WTA tour anyway). I also thought he was a good pundit / commentator during his odd stint on BT Sport back in the day.

Interesting to see what both do next.

I note that George Morgan (one of our highest ranked youngsters, highly tipped for greatness) is still coaching but is now back in the UK

(the lad could do with help with his English though - 'very unique', a major overuse of the word 'myself' - probably doesn't matter but get someone to check it over, George! .....)

I'm with you, Jan - I'm mean who else do they think it could possibly be?

A little shout out for Bath University's tennis set-up (and David Sammel) as both Lissey and Luke J win titles this week

This may have been mentioned elsewhere. Nigel Sears is the new coach of Sorana Cîrstea.

We should give a big shout out to Andrew Richardson, Emma's coach, both previously and during this US run.
Her dad says he chose him for this trip because he needed someone that emma felt absolutely comfortable with (slight impression that Nigel sears hadn't worked A1 fine at Wimbledon?)
And Emma says Richardson is amazing at keeping her calm and focussed. And really good at not trying to change too much, just getting her to focus on doing the simple things really well (hence all those one, two plays)

Interested to read what Emma's dad was looking for in coaches.

He subscribes to the view, apparently, that you should have a lot of different coaches.

He think that way you get to pick up nuggets of wisdom, tactics, etc from a wide range, which gives you a broader skill and tactic base.

Others I guess may think you just end up confused.

But it makes quite a lot of sense - I wouldn't want my kid to have the same maths or English teacher from age 12 to 18 - so why tennis coach.

Ian Rad took it as far as trying to find a different coach for each shot. But I think he had to abandon that idea.

However, it's true that some of our players who've been with the same coach for ages might like to think about the wisdom of that (why do I always think of Katie Boulter????? )

And it certainly seems to have worked well with Emma - she has a wide base of different coaches to draw upon.

As per Andy Richardson for this US leg.

Just wondering if it will be really helpful for Emma that she's got a left handed coach on this US Open leg..

Big congrats to Andy Richardson for 2021 US Open Coach Award - amazing work he's done these weeks - well done to the Raducanus for choosing him, their reasons were SO sound and well thought out. And to what he brought.

Nice tradition. Andrew Richardson gets US Open coaching trophy presented by ER.

Great to see our own forumite, tennis coach Matt James, getting huge praise from the LTA for the key role he played in coaching her for the two-three critical years when she 16/17.
