Wow, US carnage. Includes 3 of their full house US Open semi finalists ( Stephens, Vandeweghe and V Williams ) with Keys still to play.
Venus and Coco were also runner up and semi finalist respectively at last year's Aus Open. With Serena winning it they had 3 of the 4 semi finalists last year. Stephens and Keys missed that event.

drop in rankings for Venus as she was finalist last year maybe this is her demise hope so! I have never been a fan of either of the Williams sisters
Venus has been written off many times for various reasons and she has kept coming back.
On the flip side good to see Belinda Bencic ( CH 7 and still just aged 20 ) looking to be coming back strongly after her injury woes. At a bit lower level she successively won a couple of 125K series events and an ITF 100K+H at the end of last year, which has her a very early joint leader in the women's race. And she beat Vandeweghe, Pavlyuchenkova and Osaka in the Hopman Cup group stages before losing to the in-form Kerber in the final. It was a tough R1 draw for Venus.

Both Williams sisters deserve a massive amount of admiration and credit for what they've achieved against the odds, even if you don't like them. They have enormous respect within the game and from other women players. Venus is now 37 and has Sjogren's disease. It's incredible she still plays at all, and so yes all she achieved last season against the odds maybe was a last hurrah in many way; still when she does pick her time to go eventually all she does deserve is tremendous respect.
