Jo is listed, whether she'll play or not, time will tell. Despite the ninja's 2017 form & ranking, Johanna might still have hoped for a different opener than a rematch of last years final.

Looks like none of the top players really wanted to be in Sydney this year! Certainly better if Jo has given herself a shot at a good run in Melbourne by not overtaxing her dodgy hip

Pity Jo got caught up in the early season mayhem. But the first couple of weeks can be so very misleading ( maybe best we do our predictions before then ) and she may consciously or subconsciously been effected by the hip problem last week but I hear no problems with it.
Sydney - biggest womens event in Australia excepting the Open. A very popular Australian #1 in the final, Barty, against a former world #1 and a well known name down under - having won the Open - Kerber. Even by the end of the first set, Stadium never more than 50% full. Maybe 2/3 full by the trophy presentation.
Angie won, playing true Kerber tennis all week, that battling, never-give-up style that was missing most of last year. Wim Fissette's reputation keeps accelerating away, he defends his 'title' with his new charge.
Edit:Addendum - WTA write-up includes the lead-in, "In front of a capacity crowd at the Ken Rosewall Arena,": I refer them to their own highlights package.
