British Tour 2018

So in the quest for the qualifying wildcard, the top contenders are (as JonH says)

1. Jonny Gray 587
2.Billy Harris WC 634
3. Neil Pauffley 726
4 Josua Paris WC 990

Love the fact that you've got guys like Matt Short having a punt, and youngsters like Oscar Weightman. That berth to the Wildcard playoffs is obviously tempting (as well as the prize money).

Note as CD says it's a WC for the Wimbledon QWC play-offs that is on offer. Jonny and Billy and probably Neil will qualify for these play-offs by their ranking.

Unfortunately, it is only the winner of the tournament that can get the wild card - if they don't require it, it will be released. Tough on the unranked players, but that is what the LTA have decided.

That is a bad decision, since it can only cause resentment of the players pitching up who already have entry. The card should go to the highest finishing player who does not have one. If two are say knocked out in the SF then they play each other to decide who gets the card. One only has to think it through for longer than 5 secs to know it is a bad decison

I agree. But it has been like that for a while. Neil is currently GB #19 on live rankings so should make it anyway. Joshua wouldn't make it, so needs the win.

The other WC on offer goes to whoever is top of the leaderboard after North Oxford - although in this case it can be passed down to the second of third player if not needed. It looks like that will be between Mason Recci (not entered at NO) or Patrick Foley who just needs one win this week.

Out of interest, anyone aware why Dan originally entered and then pulled out?

Rain disruption today, means that half the first round matches are held over to Wednesday, followed by the second round.

Only one result today, and I presume an overnight retirement
Alexis Canter [5/1228] def Sebastian Tong 6-2 Retired

Going to be hectic there tomorrow, three round scheduled

Can only guess but my thinking is he entered as he didnt know about any potential WCs coming his way. Id guess his withdrawal is down to some assurance of some sort of wildcard.

Maybe Dan is some kind of guru and can predict the weather so opted out !

No results posted from today at the moment, which leaves almost all the main draw to be played tomorrow (last day). That would be five matches for the finalists.

Yes, Billy Harris was one who pulled out. Some matches played today, but still well behind.

I'll post some results once the QF lineup is known.

Sebastian Kay was a lucky loser and is now in the QF with 2 walkovers!  Now that is a lucky loser !

I do wonder if someone like Billy got "the nod" and it was suggested to him that as he was going to get himself into the QWC play-offs on ranking anyway, why put himself through three matches in a day when he could withdraw and help them to ease their congested timetable.
