Week 1 - ATP 250 - Brisbane, Australia (hard)

Now coming back on court, think it might have been a bit of shock more than anything.

QF:  (1) Grigor Dimitrov (BUL) WR 3 defeated Kyle Edmund WR 50 by 6-3 6-7(3) 6-4

I hope that nasty turn-over on his ankle hasn't affected his chances in Melbourne.

This result sums of Edmund's career. He can boss around any player in the top 10, for a set. But when it comes to clutch, he has none.

He needs a sports psychologist.

What a shame. Absolutely nothing to choose between them in that final set until the injury. Kyle only won 2 more points after that. I think in the end it was alright physically but I think it affected him mentally.

Despite the loss, that was a very good performance from Kyle against the WR3.

And he doesn't need a sports psychologist, he's doing just fine against the top players.

Pity, but a very encouraging first week of the season. Do wish Kyle can get that 'big' win sooner rather than later ( CH win 15 ).

And Vandy, you don't know who he might be seeing, he talked towards the end of season about being very well aware of being relatively held back by losing so many tight matches, two of which he has won this week. So he may well have looked into what different avenues might help.

Not sure whether to put this result here or in the Remarkable Non GB thread but Alex de Minaur has just taken out Milos Roanic in straight sets. And to think that just 2 years ago I was watching him in Murcia Futures where he nearly went out to Billy Harris.

Yep, I had 50p on young Alex so am smiling smile

But I think it almost should go in the 'Andy' thread - it's Milos' first venture back since injury, Stan, Novak and Kei are all still sidelined, Andy too, it's the walking wounded lot who really are not match fit nor match ready.

Alex is now into the SF after beating ( Cam Norrie's bunny ) Michael Mmoh. Plays Ryan Harrison who has had the benefit of playing a LL ( in place of Andy ) and Denis Istomin, retired in the second set. Dimitrov vs Kyrgios in the other SF.

Oh no not the news I was hoping for. Really hope Kyle's ankle isn't too bad.

It does appear that the injury is not too serious.

According to this article, he is still planning to play Auckland next week.
