First round draws with updated rankings for the Brits. Whilst Gabi has the by far the toughest draw, against last week's winner, none of the others are straightforward either. Katy has the rankings on her side, but is playing a very promising junior, whilst both Sam and Beth are playing higher ranked players; in Beth's case, much higher ranked.
L32: Samantha MURRAY (GBR)[Q] 422 vs Valeriya STRAKHOVA (UKR) 351(CH:231 Feb 16)
L32: Katy DUNNE (GBR) [6] 278 vs Kaja JUVAN (SLO) 531 17yrs (JCH:5 Jan 17)
L32: Gabriella TAYLOR (GBR) 339 vs Georgina GARCIA-PEREZ (ESP) [2] 238 (CH:179 May 17)
L32: Sarah Beth GREY (GBR) 605 vs Karman Kaur THANDI (IND) 285 19yrs (JCH:32 Feb 16)
In the doubles this week it is the same three pairs. There are no potential match ups between them until the SFs, and the two seeded pairs are in opposite halves of the draw.
Emily WEBLEY-SMITH/ Ankita RAINA (GBR/IND) [3]
Samantha MURRAY/ Ana Veselinovic (GBR/MNE) [4]
Katy DUNNE/ Sarah Beth GREY (GBR/GBR)
So that 6ft1 Spaniard takes on yet another British player, after Katy and Harriet.
Maybe she'll be tired after last week's title exploits....
Thandi is the girl who beat Katie Swan a few months ago, and Tara a few months before that. (And Beth, and Ella, earlier in the year). Time for someone to change the record....
Juvan beat both Emily App and Fran Jones at Roehampton this year.
This is a wonderful article, thanks Nick. I have even more admiration and respect for Emily after reading this. Glad to see she still has a full set of ambitions, and wish her some luck in fulfilling them in 2018 - and at least topping that $16k in tour earnings. Good though that she finds other income earners along the road too...
First doubles matches have just been completed. Katy and Beth have won their first round match this time in two sets against Anna Morgina and Panna Udvardy, more than useful opposition. 7-6(2) 6-2. The match was marked by breaks of serve, even as winners Katy and Beth only won half their service games.
At the same time last weeks' doubles champs, Rompies and Yashina, have gone out in the first round on an MTB to the Russian top seeds, Doroshina and Monova.
Both the other two Brits in the doubles, Emily and Sam, play later today.
Katy reached the QF here last year, so she'll have to better that to move up. 9 points to come off on 1st January so another SF needed at least to beat her CH.
Well unfortunately as well as last week's doubles winners losing in the first round this week, so have the runner's up with Ana and Sam going out to a Ukranian pair 5-7 1-6

Slight correction-last week's winners have split for this week. Only Ms Rompies has lost so far in the 1st round in Mumbai.

Yes, my wrong assumption that the Indonesian woman was still with her same partner - who was Varunya Wongteanchai and is playing with Nudnida Luangnam, her fellow Thai this week.
As for the Brits, they have now completed their reverse fortunes this week in the doubles with Emily and Ankita also losing in two sets in the first round, with Emily now losing a doubles TB to go with her singles TB loss this week. So it is only Katy and Beth that proceed to the QF, where their opponents will be decided tomorrow.
